My meat freezer went out due to a faulty breaker. The ground beef was in another freezer but this is where all the prime cuts and roasts were. There was also a turkey and some other odds and ends.

A whole rib roast and a whole tenderloin. I’m a broken fellow.

Looks pretty questionably stored in the first place

Edit: some are literally stored in Ziploc bags, there is no excuse for this

  2. Sorry bro, lost a lot of food this summer as well. Side by side died :/

Lost 250 lbs of deer meat one time the same way but the actual culprit was an adventurous 18 month old who loved playing with knobs and dials. It was an old style chest freezer with the thermostat on the side at the bottom. Right where curious little fingers can reach. Sorry for your loss.

*How* bad is it? If it’s just medium-bad, and you have a pressure cooker/instapot, and dogs, you could make dog food…

A lot of the meat still looks good. How long do you believe the freezer was down?

Had a fridge go out once and just threw everything on the smoker and smoked it all. Smoked ground beef made amazing chili. Smoked shank made amazing soup. Brisket and ribs were perfect. Steaks held up for weeks afterwards back in the new fridge once we got it. I learned a few lessons that day. Sold barbecue steaks, roast , and brisket at work the next day to help pay for the fridge too! Definitely not a complete loss.

Anybody who buys bulk meat: get a freezer alarm. It’ll save you so much money.

Now you’ve got something to feed the chickens.

Get yourself a WiFi temp sensor. It’s saved me once already

    Sorry brother.

I was working on a job (remodel houses) and the owner was getting ready for a week long fly fishing trip. Loading his truck and drift boat. I noticed his freezer light wasn’t on. Checked electrical and it was all good freezer just shot the bed.

He was 20 min from leaving with his whole family. I told him I’d take care of it and we shared stories about everything in our freezers. I get it.

Finished up early for the day and went to pickup a new freezer for him, paid for it, installed, transferred

My business advertising is word of mouth which this helped but mostly it hurts to see this.

Second story: I was in my shop and my wife came down to tell me I can’t leave the freezer open. “I definitely didn’t leave the freezer open”, “who did? Our young child? She can’t even open the freezer!”

Just then our kid snuck into the shop not noticing us and opened the fridge to sneak some chocolate and went back up stairs while leaving the fridge open 😂. Called her back downstairs and she said “yes daddy?”. “If you are going to sneak chocolate you need to cover your tracks and make sure the freezer is closed” 😂. Being an all knowing dad is fun sometimes.

Also, another bump of a freezer alarm that has been on my list for too long.

Pain felt. Went to the freezer last night to find it at fridge temp, most everything thawed, but still cold. Can’t risk it, tossing 1/4 pig, 8 sides of AK salmon, 5# shrimps, 20# chx wings, 20# venison steaks and backstraps….😔

Feel your pain brother , my boy had his fridge go out in a storm when he wasn’t home. So much deer meat lost

I feel ya. That happened to us when I was a teenager. A package of meat fell and blocked the door. The smell never came out of the concrete 😭

Check your home insurance. You may be covered for freezer contents

I want to say our coverage was an additional $20 per year

Rats! I should put a temp alarm on my freezer later on so I can see if my freezer ever fails..

That happened to me too this year. Lost about $200 in beef and also in lamb. Couple turkeys and a goose. Not to mention a freezer I had to pay to throw out.

Sorry for your loss, we’ve all been there and will again.
