  4. We always had nuts all year long, and oranges and pomegranates in my childhood home in wintertime. I remember a salad made with sliced orange, thinly sliced purple onion, olive oil and pomegranate arils sprinkled on top. I now realize how healthy many of the Italian and Albanian foods we enjoyed were. The German food too all the pickled veg and sauerkraut.
