I forgot to turn down my oven temp to 450 until the last 5 minutes of baking. I was going to give it to my family member hosting us for dinner tonight! I will gladly eat it myself if you all think it’s a no.

I think it’s perfect! If the darker spots are too dark, you can lightly feather it with some flour! But I think it’s a beauty! Good for you! 👏🏻

You could scrape off some of the black with a knife and it’ll look swell.

It’s beautiful, gift it to me if no one wants it lol

Looks great. It’s what is called “boldly baked”.

This the color I go for. Best flavor this way.

  7. That color is good. I prefer bread even darker.
For gifting random people, golden brown.
For me, dark roast. For rye bread, super dark roast.

Beautiful. Your loaf is “bien cuit”, well done. A dark crisp ear is to be expected when the loaf is dark and perfect. I give loaves like this to family, friends, and neighbors all the time. No complaints. 🙂

I’d be amazed if you haven’t already, but check out tartine. A lot of people follow their recipe and methods.

Chad Robertson has been known to push them quite a bit darker than this.

I would be overjoyed if someone gifted that to me!

Oh my glob. I wish I was getting that loaf as a gift! It looks beautiful and delicious!

I always bake it that dark. That’s how yer gonna get it

That’s how the 2 bakeries I live nearby sell their sourdough they’re fantastic. I personally like something lighter if I bake myself / buy but if someone gave me this I’d definitely be grateful and finish it😊

  15. PositiveFunny1096

It’s perfect! Whoever gets that gorgeous loaf is very lucky.

If they reject it give it to me lmao, it looks beautiful

  17. CherryBerryPi

I swear in my sourdough group they’ve said professionals go for a dark crust like this.

I clearly must have no good friends because I have never been gifted fresh baked bread. Id take it!
