WASHINGTON, D.C. (Amazing America TV) — Cocktails all started here: with the Old Fashioned. A simple blend of spirit, sugar, bitters and ice, the drink was first defined in print in 1806. Over two centuries later, it remains a core tenet of modern mixology and the blueprint for many cocktails.
In 1917, Tom Bullock, a trailblazing African American bartender, became the first to publish a cocktail book, titled The Ideal Bartender. Among its pages, the Old-Fashioned Whiskey Cocktail was listed by name.
Today, bartenders and home mixologists alike are constantly finding new ways to reinvent the original.
