I wanted to fill my protein goal with little carbs left for the day so it’s unseasoned sushi rice with canned mackerel and kimchi.

That sounds good. Looks, not so much.

    Is she wrong? No.
Does this look good? Also no.

I’m not Korean, but I bet this is common with Korean college students.

I’m Korean, but this is still a pass from me. Way too much sodium for my taste, and I survived college on ramyun + rice + kimchi juice.

One of my favorite work lunches is canned tuna or mackerel over steamed rice and some crispy seaweed squares/nori. I have to eat it my car though

Born South Korean here. I know many and some people in the southern provinces region (I think one of Jeolla) really love fish and fishy things that they gotta add some sort of fish to their food, if not then A LOT. I was watching a South Korean documentary/reality show one day and these factory workers in the southern region were making Kimchi stew with sht ton of mackerels in it for their lunch meal. I also heard many over there put a lot of raw fish in kimchi itself when they make a batch, compared to the one in northern, capital metropolitan region (Gyeongi, where maybe they use fish sauce and broth but lots of raw fish probably not common in their kimchi).

That being said, I was born in Seoul so even as a South Korean the image strikes odd and maybe gross to me (mom would think the same since she is also from Gyeongi province area), but probably not the first time seeing someone enjoy this specific kimchi and mackerel combo. I mean I/we put a can of tuna in our kimchi stew sometimes, but wouldn’t go as far as putting a whole mackerel like those southern people do (or maybe like this pic).

I like grilled mackerel and kimch separately in their own plates and bowls, but this combo is questionable to me lol.

Was this stinky at all? It has stinky qualities.

Why do body builders get off on eating protein in the least enjoyable ways possible. If you heated that all up in a skillet it would probably have been ok.

Looks terrible but I’d eat it. I actually don’t know if I know how mackerel tastes though.

Well cats and dogs can’t eat kimchi, so they’re wrong lol.

I just think you need some standards. Its not all about nutrition, you are allowed to enjoy your food. Nothing in life is permanent, you might as well take your time with those things that are transient joys.

Unseasoned as in just rice or unseasoned as in only using sushi vinegar (often called seasoned rice vinegar on the bottle)? Because just steamed rice is not sushi rice, even if it is short grain.

I’d say cat, except I’m not sure a cat would dig kimchi (a dog also might not, but would be somewhat more likely).

That looks like it came out of my ass after I have dairy

Personally, I would’ve cut up the mackerel before adding it to the rice bowl and mixing it all together with the kimchi afterwards. I’d personally still eat this though.
