Toasties are a staple of American cuisine, but there’s an even more refined version that delivers just as much flavor. A croque monsieur is a classic French dish brimming with cheese and ham – essentially a fancy take on a toastie, if you will.
However, one chef has taken the simple sandwich to new levels, swapping out regular bread for something far more delectable. Sam Stern recently revealed his spin on the comfort food classic, using garlic bread along with all the extra taste and richness of a croque monsieur.
You’ll never look at a croque monsieur the same way again, reports the Express. This follows news BLT sandwiches will have more flavor if you swap bacon for a tastier alternative

“Rich béchamel sauce with wholegrain mustard, good quality ham and delicious gruyere cheese. YUM!”, reports the Mirror.
So how do you upgrade a standard croque monsieur?
You can either buy ready-made garlic butter, or grab a ciabatta and slather it with your favorite garlic butter.
Spread on a generous amount of wholegrain mustard, then layer on slices of ham.
To make the creation even more indulgent, whip up a creamy béchamel sauce.
Pile on plenty of cheese for that gooey goodness.
Pour the béchamel generously over the ham, then top with additional cheese.
Sam’s choice is gruyère for a robust flavor.
Slide the garlic bread into the oven until the cheese has bubbled and turned golden brown.
Finish it off with some finely chopped chives and a cornichon on a cocktail stick for that extra flair.
