Just got home from lunch at Salam’s Grill at Vacancy Brewing on St. Elmo and it was sooooo good. Husband and I shared the Chicken Shawarma Box, which comes with the wrap and a large portion of seasoned and sauced fries, and we ordered a side of hummus, which comes with pita bread. Everything was outstanding (I lived in the Middle East for a while so I have pretty high standards when it comes to shawarma and hummus), and food was ready in 3 minutes. We’ve made the trek from South Austin up to Peace Bakery a few times and are so thrilled this offshoot is here down south now.
Making this post in the hopes that it’ll drive more folks to check this place out! Seems like opening weekend has been pretty slow for them (maybe ACL?), but it’s for sure one of the best dining options in the area now. Vacancy is doing a $4 classic pint special today, so it’s a great day to check it out!
(I didn’t think to take a photo of the food until it was half eaten …)

We had it last night, and it was AMAZING! I don’t have enough good things to say about it. My husband and I shared the fat man’s plate with a mix of shawarma, and I’m still dreaming about it today. The beef was yummier than the chicken, imo but both were delish. The falafel was also outstanding.
I think the only thing I had a complaint about was the Pita that came with the hummus. It didn’t seem fresh? Everything else was amazing! South Austin, please go support because we need more variety down here!

I had them today too! I frequently go to peace bakery so I was ecstatic when I found out they were opening a food truck. We got their beef and chicken boxes which came with the coriander fries (which are very similar to peace bakeries coriander potatoes for all the lovers). Hummus was delicious and the mint drink was refreshing! I follow them on instagram and they have a 10% off discount rn if you show them that you follow at time of order.
Went Sunday as well. While not on the menu, they did a falafel wrap for us, combined with the sauced fires, excellent!
Went today, great flavors and really good service. Whatever olive oil they have on the hummus is amazing.
I know I’m a fat man, but now I have to admit it to get shawarma over rice!? 😅
