Hey all,
I live in Fiji so the old bongo chilli is plentiful. However I started to grow a couple of plants in pots on the balcony. One didn't do so well from the off, still gives fruit but is stunted, however my other plant I just wanted some advice or comments on.
The plant is quite large and healthy with plenty of green fruit on and lots of flowers. However, I seem to getting some leaf drop, mainly the lower leaves. They turn yellowish and then drop. I was worried it was the harsh sun here as the leaves wilt in the afternoon and point down, so I move it into the shade most days. But I am also concerned it's a watering issue.
Basically is leaf drop normal? Do habaneros like more dry conditions?
Don't want to loose this baby so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Firstly, Fijian Bongo is one of the most under-rated habanero types imo. One of my all time favourites, more people should grow it!
There can be several reasons but I’d guess potentially over-watering and/or drainage.
If it’s only the oldest growth then it likely means you need to feed them more. Nitrogen is mobile, so if the plant is short of it then it will recycle it from older growth to support the new growth.
It’s possible you also have a combination of the above, so overwatering causing nutrient uptake issues plus low nutrient availability in general.
