So – I bought this tin many months ago. Honestly, I was nervous to try this – I expected it to be super fishy and super salty (I typically don’t care for super salty foods).
However, as an appetizer before dinner, I decided to pop this tin open and eat it. I was really surprised! It is maybe a bit salty for me, but that is a really minor (and subjective) critique. The smokey flavor was quite tasty, and the fish did not taste overly-fishy in any appreciable amount (maybe the smoking helped?)
The meat was juicy and savory. Really kinda reminded me of other smoked fish dishes I’ve had on cruises before (like smoked Salmon).
Side note: I really enjoy how Rügenfisch provides information on where and how their product is caught. As a fisheries science grad. student, transparency is always appreciated (and it helps quell my nerdy curiosity).
I would most certainly buy again!

I agree, those do look rlly juicy!! Thx for the review:)
I like pairing my kipper snacks with ultra boring crackers like those unsalted wheat ones. Been my goto can to break up days when the deens aren’t calling to me.
I put these on top of leftover rice as I reheated it and the fish became so moist and juicy. It kind of blew my mind a little. It’s like when you get that perfectly cooked filet that flakes but melts in your mouth. I just…put them in there as the rice reheated.
