Hello all,

You may or may not have seen my post featuring a buy-out of Danny Meyers' midtown bar, Porchlight. I posted the event in order to gauge interest and there was actually more than I expected, and hopefully there will be enough people to reach the 100-person buy-out price of $18k. I reached out to Porchlight yesterday and received an email back from the event sales manager today. I'm attaching the email and the photos that she attached from last year's festivities. She didn't mention the theme from last year.

Feel free to comment on your continued interest or newfound disinterest. If anyone has more questions, I'll wait until tomorrow morning and then I'll draft another email back to Debbie. The obvious big question is how we're going to submit payment. If anyone has ideas for how to make that part go smoothly, I'm all ears. Also, we obviously need 100 people to participate; I'm going to ensure that as the one who advertised the event, I am able to go and bring a plus one, to make things even. So we need 98 people. I say we give the post til the end of the weekend to garner the needed participants and go from there. Sound fair?

I know this sounds like a bit of a headache to organize but I really think it'd be a great opportunity for our little foodie community, and I'm willing to do as much as possible to make sure all y'all have to do is submit payment and show up. Thanks for reading and responding.

Best,

You could try something like setting up an EventBrite event and basically just selling tickets that way, which will take care of payment processing, ticketing/registration, and a bit of security at the event itself (show ticket to get in). I’m not sure if the bar will care or not, that you start re-selling tickets.

But that comes with some fees (at least payment processing fees, if nothing else). The cheapest option is probably just asking 98 people to Venmo you directly, and you keep a spreadsheet of who’s paid (ask people to include their Reddit username in their payment message to you), and you can use that list of registered/paid-up redditors as a guest list to check admittance, if you want (not sure if people would prefer using reddit names or real names, to prove identity). Obviously first come first served, and if you accidentally go over 100, you can refund people (or keep a wait-list/standby list in case of cancellations or no shows).

  2. It sounds like you’re trying to keep it to $18k, but if you want to add a DJ, my company (downtowntalent.com) can get you set up with one for ~$1500 including equipment – I know that would bump the per head equation, you might consider making it $200/head anyway for the trouble you’re going through on organizing! DM me if you want to work something out
