Have been going to Hong Kong Bistro Cafe on Dundas east of Spadina for ages. They have an extensive menu of cha chaan teng HK-style diner and classic Cantonese fare. But I almost always get a baked rice casserole dish. I rotate through various protein and sauce combos such as pork chops with tomato sauce, curry ox tongue, and chicken with Macau sauce.

Tonight I had seafood with cream sauce ($18). The generous amount of creamy and savoury sauce blankets vegetable fried rice layered with lightly battered and deep fried shrimp, squid, fish fillets plus fresh mussels. So good, so hearty, so comforting. Along with the complimentary soup of cabbage borscht, everything hit the spot as always. Tucked away upstairs, a Spadina Chinatown hidden gem.
