In a prepackaged factory produced food the calorie count is going to be pretty much exactly what it says on the tin. It’s lower in calories than regular ice cream because it’s made with milk instead of cream.

It’s missing a lot of fats that would be in full fat cream and not as sweet as other flavors (well esp with extra stuff like caramel, syrups etc) so yeah! 433 calories!

Wow 433 per container?!!! I wish we had it at local stores, but good for you! I would def eat the whole container with 433 cal

Makes sense to me. Halo Top is around the same and sometimes less per entire pint.

The other answers are correct – if it’s a pre-packaged, mass produced product, the info is almost certainly correct and you can just accept it.

To add a bit more detail, here’s how this pint of gelato compares to a premium ice cream brand (Haagen Dazs, Ben and Jerry’s, etc.)

    – This Gelato: 270g total weight, 20g fat, 59g sugar, 10g protein, 433 Cals

    – Eg. Premium Ice Cream: 420g total weight, 60g fat, 129g sugar, 18g protein, 1120 Cals

A decent chunk of the calorie savings are literally because they’re whipping more air into this – this is a common “trick” because ice cream is, for whatever reason, sold by volume and not weight. The company can save money and advertise it as lower calories just by whipping more air into the product.

The next thing you’ll notice is that this gelato has a lot less fat than a premium ice cream. The first ingredient here is “ORGANIC WHOLE MILK & CREAM” which is absolutely a weasely way of wording it, because of course they’re not telling you how much of each. You can be assured that this is mostly milk with a little splash of cream. Compare this to a premium ice cream brand and you’ll notice the first ingredient there is always just “Cream”.

Finally the sugar is a bit lower here than in premium ice creams, so that will account for another chunk of the missing calories.

That’s a hard pass for me. The included sugars at almost 40g is insane!
