  1. I love how back in 1977, teens were still 5 years old.

Punch sounds tasty, PS sounds like they were going for the German Variety. Not my thing but takes all kinds .

    #PUT THE PARTY IN MOTION
Move in on a super birthday party that’s really something to celebrate. Dish up some hotshot franks, plan a party punch and put the frosting on the cake. Whether you light the candles for yourself or a friend, you’re sure to have a happy!

    ##Hot ‘N Saucy Franks
    1½ cups Dr Pepper
    4 tablespoons salad oil
    1 cup catsup
    ½ cup vinegar
    1 teaspoon salt
    2 teaspoons paprika
    2 teaspoons chili powder
    4 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
    4 tablespoons finely chopped onion
    2 cloves garlic, minced
    Few drops Tabasco (to taste)
    2 pounds frankfurters

Combine all ingredients except frankfurters in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes. Add franks to the sauce, spoon sauce over franks, then simmer about five more minutes before serving. Top with shredded cheese or chopped onion. This recipe yields about three cups of sauce.

    ##Super Salad Dressing
    2½ cups Dr Pepper
    ½ cup oil
    ½ cup lemon juice
    1 cup catsup
    1 teaspoon garlic powder
    ¼ cup dry minced onion
    2 teaspoons salt
    1 teaspoon pepper
¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper (or red pepper sauce)
    1 teaspoon basil

Blend ingredients together on stir speed of blender for two minutes. Store in tightly sealed container and refrigerate. Shake well before using. (Will keep for several weeks in the refrigerator.) Makes about 4½ cups of salad dressing.

    ##Party Potato Salad
4 pounds potatoes (8 cups cooked and sliced)
8 to 10 strips bacon, chopped
    ¼ cup bacon drippings
    1 tablespoon salt
    1 cup chopped onion
    ¼ cup Dr Pepper
    ½ teaspoon black pepper
    ⅔ cup vinegar
    3 tablespoons sugar
    1 teaspoon celery seed

Cook potatoes without peeling them. Peel and slice while still hot. Fry chopped bacon until brown and crisp. Drain. Reserve ¼ cup bacon drippings in the pan and add salt, pepper, sugar, onion, vinegar and Dr Pepper. Simmer 10 minutes. Pour over hot, sliced potatoes to which have been added the crisp bacon and celery seed. Toss together lightly. Serve while hot. Yields about 16 ½-cup servings.

    ##Very Cherry Punch
    3 cups hot water
    ½ cup sugar
    2 3-ounce packages cherry gelatin
    3 cups cold water
    ½ cup lemon juice
    1 cup pineapple juice
    ⅛ teaspoon salt
    ¼ teaspoon almond extract
    5 cups Dr Pepper

Combine hot water and sugar in a saucepan. Bring to a boil. Add gelatin, stirring until well dissolved. Add cold water, lemon juice, pineapple juice, salt and extract. Cool. Just before serving, stir in Dr Pepper. Serve with crushed ice. Makes approximately three quarts.

    ##Fudge-it Chocolate Cake
    1 cup butter or margarine
    2 cups Dr Pepper
    2 cups cake flour
    2 cups sugar
    1½ teaspoons cinnamon
    4 tablespoons cocoa
    ½ teaspoon salt
    ½ cup buttermilk
    2 eggs, beaten
    1 teaspoon soda
    2 teaspoons vanilla

Heat together the butter (or margarine) and the Dr Pepper until the butter is melted. DO NOT BOIL. Sift together flour, sugar, cinnamon, cocoa and salt into mixing bowl. Combine buttermilk, eggs, soda and vanilla in a separate bowl. Add the hot Dr Pepper mixture to the dry ingredients and blend well. Last, add the egg mixture, mixing well. Bake for 30 minutes at 350°F in either a 15½×10½×1″ sheet cake pan or in two 9″ round pans.

*Note: It is easier to frost cake layers while they are frozen. Places layers on cooling racks and freeze. After cake is frosted and it thaws, it will be moist and delicious.*

*For frosting, we used a frosting mix, substituting an equal amount of Dr Pepper for the liquid called for on the package.*

Why does the punch have all that gelatin? Was that common?

  8. sillinessvalley

That cake looks good! I’d like to try making it.
