Yeah that sucks. I found out the hard way that cast iron is brittle when I broke part of my Akorn grill.

If they send you a free replacement and you get to keep the old one, grind off the sharp broken edges, and see if you can make a smaller grill, that you can put on the charcoal basket for direct searing

Congrats! Ordered 2, got 3 — that’s what I call a win!

FWIW, I had a cast iron grate for my BGE for a couple years, and decided the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze. The seasoning would burn off after high temp sears, it would get surface rust if I didn’t use it for several days, and it was just generally more trouble than it was worth. It eventually fell and broke in half – much like yours and I didn’t bother replacing it.
However – I got a heavy weight stainless aftermarket grate on Amazon (maybe only fire?) but it has super thick bars – like 3/8”, the same as my Komodo Kamado, and that’s AWESOME. More thermal mass to make sear marks, no rust, round profile is much easier to clean (especially with a grill floss – which I also recommend).

Honestly I kind of like it… if it actually balances on there…
