My old Weber iGrill 2 is dead and was looking at a new one. I don’t smoke or anything, just for monitoring steak or chicken.

I was looking at this one. What do you think?

Thanks

For steak and chicken I would use an instant thermometer, I wouldn’t waste the money on these. If smoking I would get them

These are terrible. Connection problems all day long.

If you are looking at these I would advise to upgrade to the TempSpike Pro, which is rated for a way higher temperature. I had this exact one before the Pro and it melted during my first searing running up to 550 F, the Pro has a way higher max temp (1000F irc)

  4. I use Thermopro products at home and work (I’m a state health inspector) I bought the single spike about 2 or 3 years ago. I my experience i would get vastly different readings between this and my instant reads so I stopped using it. Hope they have updated the design

Instant read is your friend, it will also not poke as big of a hole in your protein 🙂

I have one of those and it’s not good

The app for TempSpike is dog shit. I don’t really have connection issues but it’s like the creators of the app wanted to give you the worst interface possible

  8. I’m a ThermoPro believer. Had the original one for years, it died after 7 years of regular use. I upgraded to the temp spike thinking wireless would be nice, it’s not as consistent, and it’s so thick that it make whether you cooked look like it got shot. I “downgraded” back to the wired version. I really only use these for spatchcock chickens or reverse sear

After i had the battery on my wireless probe disconnect from my phone and ended up cooking a brisket up to 150 ill never use them again.

I purchased one years ago and mine needed to be connected to a constant power source in order for the Bluetooth function to work.

Nothing beats wired thermapro probes. I’ve never had good consistency with wireless, even meater+.

dont get it. I’ve had several of these and they break or give bad readings.

Had one it broke immediately, went with thermapen brand instead. Love everything thermapen now.

I don’t know maybe it is just me, but every single Thermopro product I have used has been quite trash after regular use. Instant Read thermometers will melt, and they definitely are not water proof like mentioned. Maybe water resistant but definitely not waterproof.

Multiple probes wires have failed. I think I currently swap between 6 of them. Because sometimes they wont work and sometime they will, definitely think it has to do with the connections of wires within the sleeve itself.

Maybe the old stuff they had was better but I would say anything within the past year, year and a half has been complete trash from my experience.

It’s solid. The only knock I have, and it’s small: the white/black end of the probe discolors in a smoker, and it’s a bit of a pain to scrub clean, with the indentations.

I was gifted one. It disconnects constantly and one probe died after 6 months.

Their “lightning instant read” thermometer also takes like 10 seconds to get to temp.

That company is trash and I’d recommend staying away

I’d rather have a Meater+ or Pro than this… which isn’t saying much.

Or just do what I did and wait for a sale on the ThermoWorks website before buying a RFX 2-probe kit.

The only brand to consider is ThermoWorks not Pro
