2021 – Raul Perez, Ultreia Saint Jacques Bierzo

Bright, pretty nose – red cherry, rose hips, and light sweet basil. M+ acidity, solid backbone, great texture. Palate is more muted than the nose, waves of minerals underpin a background of red fruit.

Perez's entry level wine and by far his highest volume cuvee, a good reflection of his style if not its usual substance. A bit like if Picasso designed a stamp, attractive but not entirely satisfying. Still, at a fraction of the price of his more expensive bottles, it's an excellent wine with great QPR.

Cheers!! We’ve been on a kick of older Pinots from the cellar. Tonight though we opened a 2022 Nicolas-Jay Nysa vineyard Pinot noir (Dundee hills, willamette valley, Oregon). Nysa vineyard produces such great fruit and the team at Nicolas-Jay make it work so so so well.
