Here is a look at the latest restaurant news in Gainesville and Alachua County.
Another Broken Egg
Residents can enjoy Southern-inspired breakfast and lunch cuisine beginning Monday as Another Broken Egg Cafe holds its grand opening in Gainesville at 3265 SW 34th St., Suite 3, in the University Town Center.
Gainesville is the first of seven planned locations in the Southeastern U.S. for franchise owners Renee and Derrick Jones.
“With its rich array of museums, state parks and community events, we’re excited to bring Another Broken Egg Cafe to Gainesville residents and visitors,” Derrick Jones said via a press release. “The community thrives on the energy of the University of Florida’s students, faculty and staff, and our convenient location near UF Health Shands Hospital makes us an ideal spot for families, professionals and friends to gather. Our goal is to create a warm, family-friendly environment where everyone can enjoy a chef-driven menu that has something for everyone, and where life’s special moments—big or small—are celebrated over great food.”
Its menu features an array of breakfast and brunch classics, such as Chicken & Waffles, Shrimp ‘N Grits, Classic French Toast, Huevos Rancheros and Biscuit & Gravy.
The cafe also will serve gluten-friendly and vegetarian meals, and other foods that meet dietary needs.
Another Broken Egg was founded outside of New Orleans in 1996. It has since grown to more than 100 locations in 16 states.
The Paper Bag
The Paper Bag Deli’s newest location is now open at 209 NW 75th St., in the former home of Halo Potato Donuts off Tower Road near The Home Depot.
The location replaces the eatery’s original home less than 5 miles away at the corner of Archer and Tower roads. The restaurant’s other location is at 11 SE First Ave. in downtown Gainesville.
Richard Sterck, owner of The Paper Bag, said he is grateful to open his newest location.
“Our motto is changing lives one sandwich at a time,” Sterck said.
The restaurant’s Tower Road location is open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the possibility of staying open later.
“The community has been very welcoming and open,” Sterck said. “We try to give people quality food with a twist and show people respect and love no matter who they are.”
Popular items include the Tre Way Jay — an Italian hoagie filled with burned pork ends, maple honey ham, thick-cut pork belly, a sweet and spicy bourbon glaze, American cheese and onions — and the EvDaBev Crossover — think Philly cheesesteak meats French dip.
