A well-loved spot for modern Italian cuisine has closed its final remaining location in Hamilton.

Caro was an Italian restaurant that started off with an original location at 4 Ottawa Street North, serving up familiar and comforting classics like chicken parmigiana, Neapolitan-style pizzas, fresh pastas, share plates, and more.

The restaurant’s success led to the opening of a sister restaurant – Caro on James – which opened at 229 James Street North and offered as similar experience and menu to its flagship counterpart.

Earlier this year, the original Ottawa Street location of Caro closed, leaving only Caro on James. Now, it seems that second location has also permanently closed, with the James North restaurant space shuttered and a real estate sign hanging from the front window.

A formal announcement about the closure was not made by Caro, and their social media has recently been deleted. The speakeasy on the building’s lower level – My Father Was Famous – also quietly closed and vanished from social media.

A Termination of Lease letter dated October 17th, 2025 has been posted on the front door of Caro and My Father Was Famous explaining that the businesses owe rent arrears in the sum of $42,150.03.
