First time grilling on a wood fire, are the steaks too close?

    I watch outdoor boys channel on YouTube (even now when he’s retired from it for his son to bloom) put his right on the coals so I’d say you’re good 👍🏻

    From that angle, it looks like it could have gone either way. Maybe too early/hot or maybe far enough from the high flame for the coals to do the cooking. (Granted, I like mine rare.) How’d they turn out for you?

    Those steaks with the fat on the edges: are those picanha? Sure look like it to me. Lettuce know how they came out, I have a couple in my freezer but I’ve never smoked em before…

    Fire + meat = good

    I’d have waited for all coals to burn down, but thats not a bad start.

    I can see the coals under the meat directly, look a little close, but seems like you figured that out already! I’d still eat em!

    What are you using as a fire pit there? If it’s galvanized steel you’ll want to burn all the coating off.
