I got an egg at a garage sale for next to nothing because it had a chip at the top. Any suggestions on fixing this gap? I tried to use some heat based adhesive , that’s the red spots, but it did not hold . Thanks in advance?

Have you considered furnace cement? If you do make sure you do an empty burn before cooking but I think as a patch it should hold and do the trick.

Go buy a new base, you’ll still be ahead

Don’t they still have lifetime warranties? Call them and they might send you a new bottom half.

Forget the chip. Just cook with it.

Watch your local website sales. Somebody will break their top and look to sell what’s left.

Just cook on.

They have a lifetime warranty. Show the photo to a local dealer, tell them you’re the original owner. It will be fine to do basic grilling like that, but it will be tough to smoke anything since you can’t control the airflow.

Refractory cement.

Biggest concern is not being fully sealed. Hard to tell based on the pictures, but could you create enough of an air barrier with aluminum foil wadded up and tucked behind the band to create an effective seal?
Completely inelegant solution, but these things are functional items first and foremost.

I have seen several bottoms for sale on Facebook recently because they broke their top for whatever reason. Check there

I’m sure they are great smokers/cookers, but I see a lot of posts like this. Are they really that “fragile”?

I just warrantied my base because of a hairline crack in the bottom. You can have it, your damage is worse
