Taco Bell is no stranger to incredible menu offerings, from the return of Cheesy Street Chalupas to the revamped Y2K Decades Menu, and even newer innovations like Mountain Dew Baja Blast Midnight. Plus, the chain is always capitalizing on fan favorites with new twists and partnerships, like Mike’s Hot Honey Diablo Sauce or a Tajin-inspired Discovery Luxe Box. It’s safe to say that, with roughly 30 new menu offerings in 2025 alone (and counting), TBell fanatics are simply spoiled.
Beyond the standard fare, such as tacos, burritos, and Crunchwraps, the fast food chain also offers a solid lineup of desserts. Personally, I’m partial to the limited-edition Birthday Cake Churro, though I know many fans have a soft spot for the Dulce de Leche Cinnabon Delights.
But when the brand teamed up with an ice cream shop to introduce its most indulgent collab yet, it nearly broke the internet…and no, I’m not talking about the Choco Taco.
Salt & Straw and Taco Bell Are Bringing Back ‘The Tacolate’
Beloved Oregon-based ice cream maker Salt & Straw has once again teamed up with Taco Bell to bring back The Tacolate—a delightful frozen dessert inspired by the nostalgic ice cream truck treat. After the initial launch went viral, fans of both chains have eagerly been awaiting the treat’s return.
When the unique dessert was first offered up at the beginning of the month, it immediately sold out in Salt & Straw shops—and was gone from the site within 10 minutes. And it’s easy to see why.
The Tacolate highlights flavors and ingredients from both chains in a way that’s authentic to each brand. That’s because it was thoughtfully created by Salt & Straw’s ice cream innovators in collaboration with Taco Bell’s culinary team. Ancho chile cinnamon ice cream is tucked into a sweet taco shell made from crunchy waffle cones, then dipped in decadent single-origin chocolate and topped with toasted brown rice for a treat that’s crispy, creamy, and chocolaty all in one. Plus, the Tacolate is served with two sweet, custom takes on the iconic Taco Bell sauce packet: Mango Jalapeño Sauce and Wildberry Cinnamon Sauce.
Fans were eager to try the ice cream taco, with many flooding Taco Bell and Salt & Straw’s Instagram comments to share their excitement. “I’ve never needed anything more in my entire life,” wrote one user on Taco Bell’s post.
Those lucky enough to get a taste of the first drop gave rave reviews: “That is really good, maybe one of the best desserts we’ve ever tried here,” exclaimed snachwithzach, before calling the sauce “the nectar of the gods.” He also noted that the ancho chile is really nice and mild, without adding too much spice. “The spice works really well with the taco.” The takeaway? “Fantastic.”
While you can’t get this product at the Taco Bell drive-thru, The Tacolate will be available beginning Friday, Oct. 24, nationwide. Fans can try the decadent dessert for themselves in person at Salt & Straw shops. Alternatively, fans outside the area can order a pack of Tacolates for nationwide shipping on the ice cream chain’s website.
Given that Salt & Straw’s last release of the ice cream taco sold out in minutes, fans may want to start preparing for the epic drop. As a Taco Bell and ice cream fanatic, The Tacolate is right up my alley, and I’ll be making the trip to NYC to snag one for myself…but only after stopping by my local TBell for a Grilled Cheese Burrito and crispy Baja Blast first.
