I recently switched from my vertical Pitt boss propane smoker (5 years) to the Weber smoque xl. I’ve never owned a pellet grill previously but the Weber seems to go through pellets a lot faster then I excepted. It seems to be close to 1.5lbs an hr even on low temps. For example: my 14 hr, 8lbs packer brisket basically burned through a 20lbs bag of pellets. Brisket turned out great so no issue there, but the speciality 20lbs trager pellets cost 22$cad. More recently I’ve been buying the Kirkland brand pellets 20$-40lbs bag) so much better deal. Is this comparable to other pellet smokers/grills this size?

That doesn’t seem unreasonable. My standard-size Searwood went through about 20 lbs for an 18 hour cook, so for you to use more on the SmoqueXL would make sense.
I haven’t tracked it that closely to be honest, but I think that sounds in the realm of what’s normal for my camp chef smoker. I always keep 2 Kirkland bags on hand because on a big day I can make a good dent in a single bag and I don’t want to run out. In cold weather especially they can really go through some pellets.
I don’t know how much mine goes through… usually I just fill my hopper and get drunk while it’s smoking….
You’ve got the xl. So that’s a lot of volume of air to heat up. The regular non xl uses a lot less pellets. Also in the peak of summer you will use a lot less pellets.
