Italian food marketplace Eataly has launched Eataly alla Radice, a new range of pasta, as it seeks to set a new standard for traceability and environmental responsibility.

Eataly plans to extend this approach to other product categories, including oils and sauces, by the end of 2026.

Eataly alla Radice was developed in collaboration with the University of Palermo and Slow Food Italy, and independently verified by the multinational certification group RINA.

The production of the new pasta range is based on the principles of agroecology, focusing on improving climate resilience, soil and water health, biodiversity, and ecosystem services through practices like crop diversification and land conservation.

The initial Eataly alla Radice offering includes four popular pasta shapes: spaghetti, linguine, rigatoni and paccheri, crafted from durum wheat semolina.

The fully traceable supply chain involves dedicated partners: durum wheat producers Fondazione Siniscalco Ceci Emmaus and ATS Agri, both of which are farms in the Foggia countryside committed to social and environmental initiatives; Molino De Vita, a family-run mill in the Monti Dauni hills, known for blending tradition with innovation; and Premiato Pastificio Afeltra, a historic Gragnano company established in 1848, renowned for its quality and respect for raw materials.

‘Narrative Label’

A key feature of the new pasta is its innovative ‘narrative label’.

By scanning a QR code on the packaging, consumers can access a dedicated web page providing detailed information on the product’s supply chain, agricultural practices, cultural identity, and sustainability efforts, created by Slow Food Italy.

Andrea Cipolloni, CEO of Eataly Group, commented, “We are proud to present Eataly alla Radice with the first supply chain dedicated to our pasta, a symbol of our gastronomic culture. This project represents an important step in our commitment to building a traceable and transparent supply chain model, benefitting our customers and the producers with whom we collaborate.

“We hope this approach will soon extend to other supply chains within the Eataly Icons line, strengthening the bond between Italian excellence, responsibility and innovation.”

The launch of Eataly-branded products, which began in late 2023, now includes nearly 200 items, representing approximately 10% of turnover in their respective categories.

Eataly alla Radice pasta is already available on store shelves and will feature on Eataly restaurant menus, alongside the signature Spaghetto Eataly, starting this World Pasta Day, 25 October.
