A Toronto Middle Eastern restaurant that was once among the neighbourhood’s hottest spots has closed permanently, but its announcement alludes that the story isn’t over quite yet.
There was a time in Toronto, not so very long ago, when the name Byblos was synonymous with style.
The INK Entertainment-owned Mediterranean restaurant first debuted in the Entertainment District over a decade ago, serving chic, shareable plates inspired by a swath of different Middle Eastern cuisines atop beachy pale oak floors and between white-washed brick walls.
All 2010s boho-chic-meets-King West luxury, Byblos was a shoe-in for success, and, before too long, it expanded with a second, equally Instagrammable location in the Yonge and Eglinton area.
Both locations operated in peaceful synergy for an impressive seven years, up until this Monday, Oct. 20, when Byblos Uptown closed its doors for good.
“After many wonderful years, our Byblos Uptown location will close on October 20, 2025,” an announcement posted to Byblos’s Instagram on Saturday, Oct. 18, reads.
“We are thankful to our incredible team for their dedication and to our Uptown community for their support throughout the years.”
Though at the time of publication, Byblos’ Yonge Street occupation has officially ended, it doesn’t appear that things are over for INK Entertainment at that same address.
The caption of the post encourages fans of the restaurant to “stay tuned for what’s next at 2537 Yonge St.,” so, while we wait for an official reveal of what’s to come, that’s exactly what we have to do.
Byblos Uptown was formerly located at 2573 Yonge St.
