I own heaps of cookbooks but barely ever use recipes. Let me know which one of these you'd like to check out or if you know any and hopefully it'll inspire me to go through it and cook some things. All the books are fully vegan except "a seat at my table" and "the world in your kitchen" which are vegetarian

I have Thug Kitchen and enjoy pulling a handful of dishes from it in the Fall. There is a puff pastry samosa type thing in there I really like.

Veganomicon is my go to cookbook.

I definitely need to check out the comfort food book one of these days.

Definitely go with Thug Kitchen or Gaz Oakley’s book, can’t go wrong with either of those. If I remember correctly though, Gaz’s recipes were definitely more complex and generally more work intensive than most things in Thug Kitchen

I like the Gaz and Smith and Daughters ones. Not a fan of Isa’s recipes, gave that book away. Thug kitchen not bad but very basic. Depends what type of cook you are, I suppose. Can’t speak to the others.

  5. Veganomicon and Thug Kitchen have been staples in my house for a long time. Gaz Oakleys looked very good, but also too complicated and I ended up donating it.

I’m a huge fan of Veganomicon. I make the tempeh tacos at least once a week. The tempeh shepherd’s pie was also a revelation. She’s very creative!

Veganomicon. It has sooo many recipes, and the ones I’ve made have all been really good.

I have the Veganomicon one and it’s great if you have access to seitan and similar products, okay if you don’t.

My sister has the Smith & Daughters one and it’s stunning but not really for every day cooking if I remember correctly.

The Barnard/Kramer might be South African in which case it would probably not rely too heavily on hard to find ingredients.

  9. If you’re having cookbook problems, I feel bad for you [person]. I got 99 problems, but Thug Kitchen ain’t one.

I learned how to cook from How It All Vegan but have rarely used it since. Veganomicon I still use sometimes, more than any other cookbook.

I’ve never seen that Greek one before. Might get it myself.

I was gifted Thug Kitchen and enjoy the scones recipe and a few others. But then I heard that their whole “thug” persona was basically grifted from LA street culture and the writers are actually a couple of white people appropriating the culture… for what it’s worth. I have the same problem, though, of never using the cookbooks I have!

    Veganomicon!

Boo to Thug Kitchen for being white and making up a fake stereotypical thug persona for the laughs or whatever, gross.

I have all the formally “th*g kitchen” now Bad Manners books and just absolutely love all the recipes. I was gifted the first one back in 2014 and it became my staple. I shared it with my Jain brother in law, and his parents even ended up buying it, they loved the recipes that much.
Start with the spring rolls or Buffalo cauliflower for appetizers, and if you make it to the pizza dough and marinara sauce….. ooooo…. I promise you will be picking it up over and over and over again.

Gaz is also SOOO incredible. Can’t go wrong.

  14. How It All Vegan is a great one.

It contains my favorite soup recipe of all time.

    “Ginger Peanut Soup” 🍲

I highly recommend making that in particular.

I usually substitute the peanut butter with almond butter and it tastes just as magical. It is truly, truly marvelous.

I add all sorts of vegetables and proteins to it, not only broccoli and cauliflower! One really important piece of advice I have though: Do Not add Carrots to this recipe. It changes/ruins the entire flavour profile. Not good.

Enjoy 🤘🏼 (I wish I could share a screenshot of the recipe here for everyone … but the mods have disabled picture sharing… super lame!)

If it’s possible to flip through them, like at the book store or local library, then I’d pick the one that has recipes I’d likely eat. I find with cook books there’s often many recipes I’d never make, and only a handful I would make. I’m not terribly adventurous with food though so keep that in mind

  16. Otherwise-Boat-5144

I would choose either the first (I love Greek food) as long as the vegetarian recipes can easily be veganized….and the last one because “easy” 🙂 Update: After looking at the rest of the comments, now I also want to try Thug Kitchen and Veganomicon. Thanks for this!!

Thug Kitchen is fantastic. I also love Isa (like Isa Does It) so Veganomicon should be great

The 30 Minute books are all really good. If you have a library near you, that’s a great place to try out books before you commit to adding them to your collection.

Thanks for posting! I just bought Where it all Vegan and Thug Kitchen!

Gaz Oakley isn’t vegan anymore. I’m assuming he never was because it doesn’t make sense to think animals matter and then decide they don’t.

  20. Dear_Strawberry_5425

Gaz looks hot so I’d pick that one lol

  21. ChocolateChipSookie

I own a couple of these but I have gone into the Smith & Daughters book several times – it’s a bit more involved with the cooking but the recipe’s are delicious… highly recommend! (If you get it, start with the Garbanzos Estofados)

  22. hopelesscaribou

Bosh and Thug are good, but my favorite and most useful book had been Isa Does It by Isa Chandra Miskowitz

  23. THUNDERDIKK

    Why do people buy cookbooks?
    Everything is on the internet
