Saw this at Costco the other day and didn't know if I could justify the $25 price tag for something that I might not like. Has anyone had this? Thoughts? Pairing advice would be appreciated too!

For 25 it’s a good price. Vault no 5 is my favorite out of all of them.

  2. RasiakSnaps91

    Think of it this way:

Do you want to spend $25 and eat some cheese that could well be delicious,

    or

Do you want to keep $25 and forever wonder what could have been?

    😝

Go to the deli section and see if they have those cheeses. Check the weight and the price.

Now, you decide: is it worth it?

I’ve bought a few different versions of this from Costco over the years. There’s always that one with all the stuff all over it. That one is never as good as the rest. Generally, it’s a nice selection of cheeses.

Yes! I got this. goes good with a nice bottle of wine and parsley/garlic crostini.

  6. bonniesansgame

worth it for the vault 5 and comtesse alone, imo

  7. This is a good way to find out if you like particular cheeses or not. I would do it.

Honestly, it’s pretty good. Anything fresh cut is going to be better, but also like 3x as expensive.
For the price, it’s a steal.

  9. Contesse is delicious, and so is every Tartufo I have tried. Haven’t had Vault No. 5, but Jasper Hill makes spectacular cheese. Also, haven’t tried those Cellos, but they are probably alright though a tad boring like their other cheeses. I would say this is definitely worth it!

These packs make it very easy to build your own cheese or charcuterie board.

I buy one for Thanksgiving every year. That Tuscan rubbed fontina is FIRE
Edit; it’s worth noting that they are $14 at my costco

  11. That could be a decent price, at $7 for half a pound. If im feeling chipper and wanted to treat myself, id get it

I prefer aldi for cheese. My favorites are the everything chevre goat cheese, mango stilton, spicy smoked gouda, and the Cajun and garlic cheese curds. They have alot of different ones, though.

We got a set like this but with different cheeses last year for a New Year’s charcuterie and it was fun having a variety. Forced us to use cheeses we normally wouldn’t buy for ourselves. Would do again.

It costs money to try new things. You’re not gonna like all the new things. That’s just life dude.

There is no way this will be bad… it will be good or great. Def worth $25. Grab some wine and crackers some quince.. get the party started.

  16. Good_Bodybuilder6165

I’ve had a cheesemonger, and a chef, both tell me the Costco cheese packs are worth it

  17. nahmahnahm

Have you looked at prices at a regular cheese counter lately? $5 for a sizable wedge is a great price!

  18. IndependentLaw51

Per cost I’d say your better off going to a cheese monger, but for convenience you got a good cheese selection for charcuterie board, not that much more expensive at Costco I will add, if you’re not pinching Penny’s go for it

  19. No_Stable_3097

I prefer these to the other single cheese blocks. I can never finish the big blocks before they go bad. This way you get variety.

  20. Woodsmithgm

I think they are awesome, my wife and I bought them to make a cheese board for a party last year and it was a hit. They are all pretty tasty.

  21. secondchance-

I might have different tastes but I like choices that are more on the soft side or some goat milk or sheep milk cheeses .
I bought this pack and did not like it very much. We finished it but I won’t buy it again.

The price is good for what you get but none of them was amazing for me. They were just …meh ..ok…

  22. hominyhominy

I tasted this exact sample at the NY Food Show in February. It was a “meh” at best. The flavor was gone.

  23. Feisty-Common-5179

Okay. My dream is to backpack Europe and eat cheese on crackers. ALONE. EVERYDAY NEW CHEESE.

  24. NlGHTCHEESE

Maybe I got a bad pack, but I didn’t like these cheeses at all. And I rarely meet a cheese I don’t like.

  25. extrabigcomfycouch

My feeling is, if you’re not sure, but can, why not try? That way you get to experience different cheeses. There are so many options!

  26. Longjumping_Duty4160

Its less than $1 per ounce. Thats a good overall price for specialty cheeses in general. You could also enjoy them as an ingredient, softer ones warmed on bread or crostini And the harder ones grated on pasta or a salad.

  27. SelfRefMeta

I get triples at Grocery Outlet for about 8 bucks. I almost always buy one if it has the Comtesse. If you like some of the others, I’d go for it.

  28. meh_69420

They are all fairly standard cheeses. Good variety for the price, but nothing is going to blow you away.

  29. mrballs6942069

Its a bit overpriced imo , but the cheeses are good

  30. SummerKey3240

Awesome they have vault 5 in there. Jasper hill could be argued as the best cheese maker in america right now

  31. kelianzer07

When I see cheeses sold like that, I’m glad to live in France.

  32. EthnicKimmieSanders

I’ve had this before, bought it for myself. I enjoyed it!

  33. green_goblins_O-face

i get this every year when i host Christmas and its always a hit

  34. PhotographFinancial8

Our local Costco stopped carrying these consistently, so bummed about that because we would get these quite regularly. They may start carrying them again since it’s party/get together season. I’ll need to keep my eye out.

  35. Grand-Incident928

Buy, grab whatever produce and meat that looks great, and then channel your inner Iron Chef!!!

  36. Tuscan fontina? Wtf
Edit: I’ve just discovered in the US you call a certain mix of herbs “Tuscan rub”. No such thing exists in Italy. It probably tastes good, but it clearly is something made soecifically for the US market

  37. Gelato_Elysium

These look like pasteurized milk mass produced cheeses, if you actually like cheese don’t buy that

  38. SalsaChica75

Yes! I get my son this as part of his Christmas present every year.
