Every time I leave Austin, the sesame tofu from Central Market becomes one of the things that I miss most.
I like this tofu so much that I’ve found myself craving (and eating) it as a midnight snack, so I’ve decided to try recreating it at home.
But I’m stumped.
I figured out how they set the tofu, but can’t figure out the marinade to save me. There’s something off with every version I’ve tried.
The ingredients on the label are:
- Sesame oil
- Olive oil blend (90% canola, 10% extra virgin)
- Seasoned rice wine vinegar
- Soy sauce
- Hoisin sauce
- Sriracha chili sauce
- Oyster sauce
- Garlic
- Sugar
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Peppermint (guessing this is a really tiny amount for freshness?)
Please tell me I’m not alone in this weird, niche quest for $8 non-deep fried flavorful tofu from a grocery store. 😂
Does anyone know how to get this right? Any and all advice appreciated 🙏🏼
