It took a few Saturdays, but she's done.
The smokestack and work rack come off for storage.
We burned in some coating oil to make sure it won't rust.
And the pipe design works really well; the temp is basically the same throughout the whole chamber, and the smokestack heats up evenly, so there's no backdraft.
Super happy with how it turned out. The next update will be a heat test with buns all over the grill.

Beautiful work of art! What kind of temps do you achieve with the fire box?
The industry I work in always has smaller heavy pipe like this and I’d love to build this

That is a thing of beauty, the only thing I would do different and this is a me thing, personal preference, well 2 things, a folding front shelf, and either a solid, or expanded metal bottom shelf, but that said if i saw this for sale and had the money, take my money! Just awesome.

  7. I love how obnoxiously tall the smoke stack is.

I bet that thing makes some serious meat!

That smoke stack in the first pic looks like a dang power line pole! Nicely done internet stranger,

An awesomely different design love it. Wish I had the skill to build so I could steal this idea.

  11. I had never thought about having a fire chamber that far off the cooking chamber but I’d have to imagine it helps a helluva lot with an even cook temp throughout the chamber. Looks great! Salute!

Damn fine job, sir. Temps in the elbow and across the chamber is a mad genius idea.
