To emphasize the Halloween theme even more, I added raspberry filling to represent blood. I actually suggested it to the customer and she loved the idea. Anyways, how are my spiderwebs? Our edible image printer isn’t working so I improvised and drew them on myself.

Sorry to do this but Halloween has 2 Ls

Obligatory not a professional, I was just scrolling by on my feed. But it didn’t read as spiderwebs at first because you have the spiders “dangling” from both the top and bottom. And directly across from each other. Gravity only works 1 way, so keeping the dangling spiders to the top side would have been a good start.

The other thing is that they are so regular and even and not the usual spiderweb shape that I thought they were some sort of haunted tree or curtain theme.

Is this a cake that someone has paid for?

Really not wanting to be harsh here but it’s very much not good, I wouldn’t be at all happy if I had paid for a cake and this is what I received. There’s a spelling error. Did you have a reference image for the webs? Their shape is all wrong, spider webs don’t have that structure. Your spiders are just sticky circles, and one is defying gravity. And in general the whole thing is just incredibly sloppy. How much are you charging someone for this?

I was going to say that it looked fun when I thought you did it for yourself or for a party or something. But when you say “customer,” do you mean you’re charging someone for this? Because if so, then no, they don’t look like spiderwebs. And Halloween is misspelled. If this is for money you need to remake it.

From OP’s post history they’re a newbie in a bakery and doing their best to learn.

I think the raspberry filling was a great idea too!

But if this is for a paying customer you’ll have to scrape off the misspelled halloween and redo the spider webs.

It’s clear that you’re trying hard but you need a bit more practice on piping and details.

Please don’t be discouraged! Keep trying and you’ll only get better!

In the nicest way possible, I would not be pleased with this outcome if I were a paying customer. Spelling error on “Halloween” (it has 2 Ls) (and the piping of the letters is not great – it looks like you maybe touched the piping tip to the cake in multiple spots), the cake looks like it is not level, the spiders looks more like asterisks ***, and the webs really don’t look like webs – sorry friend! Again I mean this all so kindly.

Hi! I am a relatively new cake decorator so I know the learning curve!! Decorating cakes, especially for orders, can be so intimidating. You’ve got some advice here already, but two things I wanted to add:
    1) When doing a design like this, I chill the cake in the cooler for ~10-15min while I do something else, then pull it out and lightly trace the design with the end of a flower nail. Sometimes I practice drawing it on parchment paper first. That way it’s easier to correct if you mess up…you can just patch the frosting instead of trying to scrape off the black frosting from white!
    2) getting the sides of sheet cakes smooth is challenging. I would use a riveted bench scraper, not sure how to call it, to get grooves in the side. It makes it looks more professional but is way easier than using a bench scraper. With more practice, you can use a hot bench scraper to smooth it out carefully.

Note: Please keep any nasty remarks to yourself. It doesn’t help me at all. If you’re not going to give me constructive criticism, don’t bother commenting.

Im sorry, but I’d not pay for this.

Can I offer spider web suggestions? Connect two edges near a corner with multiple curved lines, then add straight lines radiating out from the center. These easily read as spider webs and don’t require complex shapes. (On the right)

A step up from this would be to start with the radiating lines, then connect between the lines in concave curves. (On the left)

With webs, the corners are your friends. So either top left & bottom right, or top right and bottom left. You could do tops and or bottoms, but the key is to use the _corners_. After the lines radiate from the corners, the web would form more of a w or u shape.

Yours are more m shaped, which doesn’t immediately read as web.

Try spiders with a small dot next to a larger dot for the body. You can have the legs come out of the bigger dot, or lay the legs down first like a 4 line asterisk and put the dots on the center. Like oO.

Its clear what you were trying to do. Some simple tweaks will help you complete the look.

Good attempt for a beginner! When it comes to spider webs, you’re going to want to start with straight lines radiating from a center point. For a sheet cake, you would typically want the center to be one of the top corners of the cake. Once you have your straight lines, go around and add curved lines between all of the straight lines. Try to pipe them as consistently as possible as you go around, and make sure the curved line ends where the new one starts. I typically use a larger tip for the straight lines and a slightly smaller tip for the curved lines. Hope this helps as you continue to decorate for Halloween! It’s my favorite season to decorate 🎃

for the webs, i recommend making your straight vertical lines first, then making the arches in between after. the rows after the top one flatten out a little, so if you keep each row parallel to the one above it, it will look much cleaner.

the raspberry filling is a good idea too! like someone else said, don’t get discouraged. you’ll be getting the hang of it much faster than you think

The edge piping is great but if you’re unsure of spelling or imagery, reference photos online are your friend. I know with AI everywhere it makes it harder but I don’t write anything without double checking it or writing it down first. Also maybe a good idea to try on paper first too, to see if something works. Don’t give up, practice is key!

I would have done them just on the top half or even just the top corners, also, Halloween is spelled wrong 🫠
