From what I’ve read here, Fishwife is overrated, but I’m a newbie, and the curiosity is too strong. What do I try first?

That rainbow trout is my favorite of all time. Have it in a toasted bagel with cream cheese.

Rainbow Trout is great for making smoked fish dip can’t recommend it more

The mackerel and rainbow trout are similar, and both amazing, slightly sweet and smoky, awesome by themselves or dumped over rice

The smoked salmon is most people’s favorite, and there’s a reason they’re able to get away with charging 15-17 bucks a can for it. Also great over plain white rice or by itself

The sardines are usually very beautiful looking, with shiny skin, and nice quality, but no real outstanding difference between other better priced cans like Nuri

You got all three that people post about liking so as long as you didn’t overpay, well done. You might find it interesting to get the Fangst rainbow trout and compare those two, and if so maybe hold that one until then.

The mackerel with steamed rice, seaweed, and a little teriyaki is choice

fishwife is rly good the issue w it is how expensive it is

I got a few on sale at target yesterday, trout, tuna, & mackerel. Gonna do a trout dip for the trout and maybe a light salad w the tuna

The trout and the mackerel both remain the best of their kind that have I tried, I found the salmon too salty for my liking and I have a pretty high threshold for that

Toss that salmon over some rice n drizzle some shoyu over it all, pair with some sauted broccoli. 🙂

  10. They’re more overpriced than overrated. I classify it as a generally tasty well made product. It’s just expensive.

Best to try yourself and develop your own opinion.

honestly i thank fishwife’s marketing for getting me into tinned fish. i don’t ever buy it full price though, i only buy it if i can find it on sale, usually at target! if you’re a newbie i definitely recommend trying the smoked salmon first! it’s so good on an everything bagel with cream cheese

Trout or salmon. Throw everything else away, they’re mushy imo

I’ve only had the rainbow trout and smoked salmon. The trout was decent, but I thought the salmon was incredibly underwhelming; not worth its price whatsoever.

Excellent graphics, great marketing, but there are better sardines out there.

I’m relatively new into this, too, and the salmon is one I bought as a little treat to me. I liked it a lot just on top of some Triscuits but I also made a bowl with jasmine rice and green onion and that was tasty, too.

Total hype. I’ve got some cans at home, but I’m good – don’t feel like fueling the machine. Pretty boxes, but the taste just doesn’t live up to the branding.

I thought their fish was high quality, and the flavors are interesting… But waaaay too much salt. I won’t buy them again.

    Not overrated. Overpriced.

There isn’t really a substitute on the market for their chili crisp salmon – which is insane because of how obvious it is, and how popular it is (obviously) but wildfish cannery has something similar that is incredibly delicious for less. Everything else there is near equivalent to for about half the price

Fishwife is decent. Maybe over hyped… But they’re not bad at all. Just had their tuna in spicy olive oil tonight and it was… Fine. Don’t remember how much I paid for it, maybe around $5-$7 on sale. Personally wouldn’t pay more for it.
