Does this count? Make Baklava For The First Time Today.
I’m not really much of a baker but wanted to make something for my wife who was feeling a little down this weekend.
Came out amazing. I can type out the recipe if there’s interest.

Also my lesson learned.
1. Add a few more layers of phyllo dough to the bottom next time
2. Buy pre shelled pistachios 😒 shelling the probably was the most time consuming part of the dish.

Fantastic job, coming from someone who grew up surrounded by both Greek and Turkish baklava. Try with walnuts and cinnamon next time you won’t be disappointed

I don’t know how you did it in a day. It takes so long to make and let the cold syrup soak into each layer.

Here’s the recipe I typed out after watching a few videos.
Ingredients:
1 lb phyllo dough
1 stick melted butter
1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts, pistachios, brazil nuts and cashews
1 tsp cinnamon, nutmeg
1/4 cup brown sugar
Syrup:
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup honey
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp orange extract
Make the syrup first and let it cool.
Boil syrup ingredients 10 min, then add orange extract and cool.
Steps:
Preheat oven to 350°F
Mix nuts and cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar.
Butter a pan (I used a 2” brownie pan). Layer 4 (more if you want a thicker bottom) sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter.
Add nuts, then 2 sheets buttered phyllo. Repeat until nuts are gone.
Finish with 6 buttered sheets on top.
Cut into squares then diagonally into diamonds.
Bake 45–50 min until golden.
Pour cooled syrup over hot baklava. Let rest for a few hours before serving
