Just a simple white bread recipe I found online. Me ma and I were talking about homemade bread and I decided to try it out. Looks and tastes good, if a tad dense. She calls dense bread “high falutin’”. I’ll try this again next Saturday. Was going to use regular all purpose flour, but found a bag of King Arthur bread flour while shopping for yeast and used that instead.

This brings back so many memories lol 😅

9.8/10 – that is exactly what a first loaf looks like

Yay! It’s so fun right? I recommend to work it longer, it will help it become more fluffier. Look up the “window pane test” for dough, or my grandma’s test is when you poke it the dough springs back into shape quickly

Looks great, especially for your first go. One thing to work on is your shaping – tons of good youtubes out there showing how its done.

My biggest tip is patience and warmth! While your bread is “resting” keep it in a nice warm place. If your living space is cold, try your oven with the door closed and just the light on. You want time for the yeast to work its magic and create gasses for more fluff!

Little bit more water but looks amazing. Bet it tasted great

If it tasted good then it was good.

Constructive feedback: Knead to smooth and elastic or window pane test. Watch some videos on proofing tests. You are a little under in both kneading and proofing. That’s how you can improve the crumb and texture.

After you bring the ingredients together, you can shape the dough on the counter. It really easy. Little flour down, pop the dough on, then pinch the edges and fold them into the middle. Then flip it and use hands to tuck it into the oblong shape for the tin. (For ultimate results bake in a Dutch oven/casserole pot instead). This will improve results by a good deal. These are good loaves regardless. Well done ! Baking is the source, enjoy 👍🏻

It does not matter what it looks like, only thing that matters is how it tastes. I baked my first loaf 75 years ago, and I still can’t make picture perfect bread, only bread that tastes heavenly in all its forms.

Hey if it tastes good nothing else matters. Good job!

Looks great for a first loaf. Looks like it would be delicious toasted, too. IMO bread that’s a bit dense is better than lighter bread when it comes to toast. Also for eating with stews and soups.

    Nice loaf!

Making weird bread is an important part of learning.  My first few looked more like crackers.
