The selection of tinned fish at a local restaurant. What should I get?
I've never had any tinned seafood that was stuffed, so the squid could be an interesting option. I'm relatively new to the tinned fish world and would love to know what others would choose. I'll probably get 2 of the options.

Okay eating tinned fish in a restaurant and paying those prices makes sense if it comes with all the extras. Especially if the bread and pickles are house-made.

Do they give you an option to try them all? They should offer a sample platter.

Anchovies, Olasagasti for sure
Carrie_D_Watermelon
I’d go anchovies of mackerel

Well, normally I’d say just eat them at home and buy them locally to save money, but if you insist on overpaying in a restaurant:
Tenoria Tuna and/or Nuri Sardines <3
tacodudemarioboy
I’ve never tried the grilled tails, so probably that. Otherwise I’d be all over the mackerel.

Ventresca if you haven’t had it
AGooDone
That menu looks worth paying 18 for a 6 dollar tin.

Nuri sardines! Best sardines out there!
Here is a video that tours their factory, if you’re interested!
The Gueye Mar sardine tails. Made and canned by one of the best seafood restaurants in Spain

Those sardine tails are fantastic. “tails” is a bit of a bad translation, think more like back third of the fish, surprisingly large and meaty fish. That’s a surprisingly good price, the price of those tins has shot up. And then for a second choice something different… the ventresca or maybe the squid.

The squid are excellent! One of my major favorite tins. I def recommend itvto try new flavor/texture. They taste very luxurious.
I’d pair it with the mackerel or the tuna w/ lemon and chilis but i like stong flavors. Maybe go for the sardines or tails if you want something lighter to relieve the palette?

I’ve had just about everything on there, and the olasagasti anchovies are the winner by a mile – total flavor bomb. You’ll be thrilled with them. the gueyu mar tails are great, too. Markups on those two items are surprisingly modest, especially knowing they’ll come with accoutrements. The markup on the nuri/pinhais items is criminally high.

always Gueyu Mar.

I noticed that the Spanish yellowfin tuna belly is 1/3 the price of Fishwife’s albacore belly. I guess it doesn’t come with a free fork.

The anchovies are incredible. Totally worth it. That tin goes for about 13 bucks even in the grocery store.

Stuffed squid!

Some of those are $5+ and easy to find some are $15 and out of stock so I’d pick the rarer more expensive ones (not Nuri, not the Pinhais)

This is probably on brand for me when I go to a new restaurant and now collides with my tinned fish world. Would order one of each.. lol tinned fish feast. Much like I do with appetizers when I can’t make a decision 😁
Now.. at that moment when my other half then gives me the “What the fuck are you doing” eyes, to where I conced and only order the Gueyu Mar sardines. Final answer… Sardine tails

Okay eating tinned fish in a restaurant and paying those prices If the world ran out of food. Does the staff come to your table and opens the sardines in tomato sauce with white gloves?
blanketwrappedinapig
Nothing beats an anchovy.
Grouchy-Cat1584
Fun! I think you should get whatever sounds best to you! If it were me, I’d probably get the ventresca tuna because it seems like the best value… only a few bucks more than buying the same can but having to open it myself! 😆
baconbitsy
Mackerel and anchovies. Heaven.
SabziZindagi
Get the anchovies or the sardine tails. Those are higher end than the other tins.
jamiethecoles
I’d go anchovies and tuna ventresca
Several-Cycle8290
My first choice is always squid, I don’t know if it’s because I’m Japanese but if I see squid on the menu I go for it everytime and it never disappoints! The tuna belly sounds good but mackerel does too 🤔
mozillafangirl
I’d get… tuna with capers and stuffed squid. Then I’d ask what the server recommends.
Sirduckerton
If you’ve never had ventrasca tuna belly you need to try it. It’s amazing.

The value creation of somebody taking a tin, opening it, and placing it on a plate together with some bread, butter, pickles, peppers and a lemon slice, and then charging 3 times than what the restaurant paid for it. 😭

Where is this please??

Act like you have some sense and buy three tins of Nuri for the same price and eat them at home. Ffs.
