Special treat at Lazy Bear, our wonderful sommelier offered to pour half glasses of the three library vintages and basically enjoy a mini-vertical. I'm a sucker for aged Napa, so we did it!

Just a fun experience and it did go well with some of the earlier courses.

1979 Spring Mountain Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Dried herbs, leather, tobacco, and blackberry notes.

Tannins have had time to mellow out, but acidity is still quite prominent and balanced.

With some time in the glass, picked up some notes of coffee grounds as well.

1987 Spring Mountain Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

This was my favorite of the vertical!

Slightly perfumed nose with rose and tart cherry.

Tanning surprisingly grippy, this was drinking the youngest of the three.

I've recently had some solid success with the 1987 Napa wines, having enjoyed 1987 Groth and 1987 Beringer Private Reserve recently and all three being really good!

1988 Spring Mountain Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Stewed cherry, blueberry, leather, mushroom, and slight grassiness.

This was enjoyable and approachable, likely can hang on for a while. Bear in mind, this was served from a Coravin, so score may be better out of a fresh bottle.

90 points.

omg so jealous! those library vintages sound amazing – especially the ’79 with all those dried herb and leather notes, that’s like my dream cab right there.
