I’d be more worried about any cracks in the ceramic. That does look like mold, but you can always just burn a load of charcoal and kill it off. 400 is a great deal if there’s no damage.
You should also ask the owner if he has the original warranty. The warranties dont transfer, but the original owner can put in a request on your behalf I believe.

It is mold, but mold is common depending on the weather. Just take some vinegar and clean it and then do a high burn and kill it off. If you bought this without mold, eventually you would more than likely get mold in it. Speaking from my experience…

It is mold. It can be killed with fire. It happens when dampness sticks around and it sits dormant. Normally you would crack it a little to let air in and it wont happen as much. Paint on the outside looks fine to me. Those light cracklike lines are normal after some time in the sun.

$400 is kinda steep but at least it’s got the new hinge. A clean burn will make the inside look brand new.

$400 is fair. It’s a newer model with the newer style hinges and the cap.

Buy it. You can solve the mold issue with a high temperature burn. You should do one every year anyway depending on how often you use the BGE. After the burn is also a good time to change the gaskets. There are many good videos on how to do this.

$250-300 is closer to what it’s worth. People are selling eggs like crazy these days and switching to pellet smokers. the price of used eggs is crashing everywhere.

No cracks I would jump all over it. You can sand and refinish the handle no issue. Heat it up and burn off the mold. Just look for firebox damage and if all the parts are there.
I hear masonry grout work to put it back together though.
Kick ash basket and you will last for a lifetime.

The mold is nothing to worry about – do a “clean burn” and it’ll be gone.
