I made this cake yesterday and left it overnight to cool and glaze the next day. I came back to this in the morning and I’m devastated. The event is in 6 hours, serving 30 people 😫 what should I do? Redo it? It was supposed to be glazed and be written on it.

Let’s talk about what your cat may have walked through before stepping in the cake. Then give that list to your guests and see if they still want to eat it.
Throw it out cute cat paw though
Sorry about your cake but there is no universe in which any part of this is safe to eat now. You absolutely cannot just slice the top layer off as somebody else suggested. Cats walk in all kinds of shit – literally. Unless you fancy eating the contents of a litter tray, this has to be redone.
It’s cute but I wouldn’t ever serve that to my guests. Even taking that piece out doesn’t help.
Just buy a pretty cake.
Go to Costco or a grocery and grab a cake or pie. Or if you have ingredients just make a quick batch of cookies or brownies because you probably won’t have time for a new cake to cool.
Absolutely redo it. Under no circumstances should you serve this to other people. You don’t wanna accidentally give people food poisoning or whatnot. It sucks that you wasted a bunch of ingredients and time, but take it as a life lesson.
No time to bake a new one? Buy something. It’s better than nothing.
Since you’re serving it to others, yes, I would redo it. But also, I talked to your cat, and they said they didn’t do it, so really, not sure what happened here.
redo and chill in freezer man. don’t serve this to ppl 😭
The event is in 6 hours… imo you can absolutely bake a new cake, let it cool for a bit and glaze it/write on it/decorate however you want. Don’t panic. Cute little paw btw!!!
Echoing what everyone else is saying- get a new one in the oven asap!!
Once it’s baked, wait ten mins and then put a cooling rack on top and invert the tray, remove the parchment and it’ll cool a lot quicker.
Wait until the last possible moment to frost it and you should be golden. If in doubt, chill it for an hour before decorating.
For future bakes, buy yourself some [pop up mesh food covers](https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&sca_esv=fe06bbe1a7ea018c&hl=en-gb&sxsrf=AE3TifP5XMinJoUX8zIxHlY_LNKGtf7Xzg:1761638534363&udm=2&fbs=AIIjpHyTFN8BbSyNXQ3oA-fn7H5NUrrIpQXg7ywPuzBdcoqHY9koTyP2YoWqyTioW_DKM8e-VnFAMbMvyI_Q-Qdwai4SXDVnvNKViTufRM5nqAhPrhw8l6aGCVxIPw1w5qVq3kYH-W_yHEucPrYWCJpw4z4cxdxM-EjJID5sAEz0f2J2Oh1VqkjpL8qYrMg1iN0DwFNXUtK-oXFndh_hRa6W_xJKdK3ULvBZtQOzAP7yLM8rwJiS_JE&q=pop+up+food+mesh+cover&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi61MD4tsaQAxXjX0EAHWF6PNEQtKgLegQIEhAB&biw=440&bih=756&dpr=3). You pull a cord and it opens up like a tent- you can use that to put over the bakes to let the heat out and stop naughty paws from going in!
Ewwww yes. So sorry. Hilarious but don’t serve this
No OP by all means serve everyone your cake that your cat just stepped on likely shortly between litter box trips.
Absolutely yes. The fact anyone would even consider serving this is why I am wary of potlucks or homemade food!
Glad that you are able to remake it, but I’m concerned that you considered keeping it to begin with 😭
Yes. Why is this even a question? I also suggest you figure out a way to keep the cat off your counters permanently if you plan to bake for anyone outside yourself.
Dude that’s gross. You can’t eat it.
And I’m a huge animal lover.
Doesn’t change how gross this is.
Why would you leave it on the counter for that long with animals around? Tf
I’m questioning your sanity and morals that you’d even consider serving this
OP, you should seriously re-evaluate your baking setup and health safety practices. There should not be any chance of a cat walking upon food to be served to people. I sincerely hope you are not acting as a professional and selling things out of a kitchen that isn’t blocked off from animals.
And the fact that you that thought you could still serve a clearly contaminated product tells me you are not properly trained/need a refresher.
Are you really asking if you should redo it? Like we’re you planing on serving this cake to your guest before you thought to ask? 👀
Serve it to your cat and buy one for your guests
See this is why I hate potlucks
This is exactly the reason why I don’t eat food at potlucks. This is not okay.
I shudder to think how many times we’ve all perhaps eaten food at work or family events that may have had a cat or a kid lick or touch or whatever and the maker just decided to bring it anyways.
You can eat a cake your cat stepped on all you want. You CAN NOT serve that to other people.
You can’t serve this. Please do not serve it. “You can’t eat at everyone’s house” is because of things like this
(If I’m leave things out overnight to cool I always cover with a clean kitchen towel, might help in the future but obviously not for this cake)
A stark reminder not everyone has the same hygiene standards as me.
The fact that you’re asking this makes me question everything about you.
If you never cook anything for anyone ever again, that would be ok.
Can’t believe this is even a question 🤦🏾♀️
