Hello everyone. My name’s John, a retired cook from the northeast of England in the UK. And welcome to my latest dessert recipe. And in this one, I’ll show you how to make six of these stunning individual apple crumbles. They’re economical, simple, and delicious. These golden crumbles are perfect served warm with ice cream or vanilla custard, and they’re really easy to make and bake. Autumn comfort food at its very best, my friends. You can see the ingredients list and full written method for this recipe on the recipe page on the channel’s website. And the link to that page and lots more is in the description box under the video. Just find and click on the word more and that’ll give you access to all the relative links for this video, including our website store products. Okay, let’s get on with today’s recipe. Start by adding the juice of one large lemon to a bowl. This is just to stop the cut apples from turning brown. And the apples I’m using today is pink ladies, but you can choose your favorite apple. If you like yours a little tart, try Bramley apples. I’ll just let you watch for a bit while I show you how I cut one of these apples. And obviously, I’ll do the others off camera. [Music] For these individual crumbles, cut the pieces small. But if you’re making one large apple crumble, simply cut them larger. While I’m cutting those apples, why not get up to date and join in all the fun with everything that’s happening on the channel by joining our monthly newsletter. There’ll be a link in the description if you want to check it out. Make sure you coat the apples in the lemon juice as you go. They don’t take long before they start browning. And that’s all mine cut and coated. Time to spice them up a bit. Starting with two or three teaspoon of soft brown sugar. And the sugar is entirely up to you how much you want to use. For the spices, I’ll start with a half teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Next spice is approximately a half teaspoon of ground nutmeg. Now, I like to freshly grate mine in. I think the flavor is so much better and stronger. Having said that, there’s nothing wrong with using bought ground nutmeg either. Now, give that a good mix, making sure all the apple pieces are fully and evenly coated with the sugar and spice. And the beauty about this, you can give it a quick taste to make sure it’s seasoned the way you like it. Wonderful. That’s perfect. Right now, get the bowl covered. And another great use for your shower caps, guys. Now, set that aside for at least 15 minutes to let those flavors soak into the apples. [Music] On to making the crumble mix. Starting with the flour. If you want, and for a bit more crunch, you can add 30 g or 1 oz of raw rolled oats at this point. Entirely up to you. Next to go in is the cold butter. All you have to do is to rub the butter into the flour with your fingers until you have a breadcrumb consistency. You can use a food processor to do this bit, but I prefer to do it by hand. That way, you can feel when it’s right. And if you wouldn’t mind, guys, if you found the video useful and enjoyable, can you give the video a like by hitting the thumbs up? It really helps the channel tremendously. It doesn’t have to be super fine, just enough so it’s crumbly like this. And as my old boss used to say, use light hands. In other words, be gentle with it. In real time, this only took about 4 minutes to do. Next to go in is the 90 g, that’s 3 oz, of granulated sugar. Now, you can use all white granulated or granulated dera sugar. I’m simply using 45 grams, that’s 1 and a half oz of each. The spices are exactly the same as the apple mixture. First, the cinnamon and the next to go in is the ground or freshly grated nutmeg. Now, these handy little grers are available in the shop. I’ll even throw in a free nutmeg to get you started. And a very quick mention to the channel’s Patreon, PayPal, Super Thanks, and YouTube’s new membership supporters. I’ll do the name splash and shout out a little later in the video. Right, give that a good but gentle mix, making sure that everything is thoroughly and evenly distributed. [Music] And that’s it. Your crumble mix is ready to go. For baking these crumbles in, I’ll be using one of these ramachins. All three are very nice, but I’ll think I’ll stick with the traditional white one for this recipe. They’re just a nice size for a single serving. Before going any further, preheat your oven to 160 Celsius. That’s 320 fah or gas mark 3. Okay, time to put these wonderful crumbles together. I’ll make up one and do the other five off camera. Get the apple mixture and give it a good stir because a lot of the juices will be sitting at the bottom of the bowl. I’ll start spooning it into one of the ramachins and I’ll fill it to just over half full. [Music] Now, simply spoon the crumble over the top of the apple as shown. Keep the crumble mix loose. And what I mean by loose is don’t press it down or compact it. Just let it sit on top of the apples. Now, the filling and the crumble mix does shrink some in the oven, so don’t worry about overfilling. Have it about a/4 of an inch below the top of the ramkin. To top these off and give them a bit of a crunch, sprinkle a little sugar on top. This coarse deera sugar is perfect for this. And there you go. That’s one completed and ready to bake. Just five more to go. And this is the other five. Almost done. Now I’ll give those a sprinkle of the sugar, too. And there you go. All six are ready to go into the preheated oven. And as a reminder, your oven should be set to 160 C. That’s 320 fah. or gas mark 3. Once they’re in, you can set your timer for 40 minutes. And while those crumbles are baking, I hope you don’t mind if I’ll give my brand new book five a quick shout out. This latest release features 12 all new bread recipes not found in any of my previous four books, along with even more brand new recipes for air fryers, pies, cakes, and desserts, and much more. The book also includes interactive elements such as QR codes linking directly to step-by-step video tutorials for each recipe, and you’ll find links for all five books in the description below the video. Okay, time’s up on these beautiful crumbles. I really wish we had smelly vision. The aroma of cinnamon and baked apples in this kitchen at the moment is truly heartwarming. And they’re looking fantastic, too. I’ll let them cool on the rack for a few minutes. And by the time I set up the Tasty Clip cameras, I’ll get stuck into one hopefully while they’re still hot with some wonderful vanilla ice cream. Can’t wait. And here we go. carefully does it. Make sure I get that ice cream right in the middle. You can also have vanilla custard with crumble, but ice cream looks so much better in these ramicans. Also, the beauty about these little individual crumbles, you can have them prepared well in advance, even a day or two before and kept in the fridge. And all you have to do is to pop them in the oven just before you serve dinner and they’ll be ready to serve when the main meal’s finished. Anyway, time to give these a try. And that crunchy top and beautifully spiced apple is out of this world. It might be an old-fashioned dessert, but hot apple crumble and cold ice cream never gets old. Proof that the classics never fade. Apple crumble is timeless for a reason. If any of my recipes deserve a massive thumbs up, it’s this one. And as promised earlier in the video, here is the latest name splash and shoutout list, including YouTube’s brand new loyalty membership supporters. And they are David Fisher, Martin Becky, Jenske 3250, Julie Heaton 6955, the Doctor 1225, EDZ, and YouTube’s latest new membership member is Rachel’s Homemaker Homestead. Thanks very much, guys. 1. Sorry if I'm being dumb BUT, if making these in advance – do you make them and leave them raw in the fridge and cook them when required, or do you cook them and then re-heat them when needed? Either way, thanks as always John, for another glorious recipe!

  2. Thank you for this recipe!!! I need more single serving desert recipes since we don’t eat much sweets. Question, can I substitute the AP flour with almond flour?

  3. Sorry John.
I admire your baking videos, but when it comes to apple clumble pie I claim to be the master.
This is not the best way to do them.

    In general too much sugar.
    Especally the sugar on top.

I do agree withy the lemon juice. I add also the lemon cest.
In addition you should add some choped hazel nuts.

I have not used nut meg so I do not know if that is a plus or not.

What I use is cinamon and I put it on the apple pieces.
And I usually go a bit lower on sugar than what is called for in the recipie.
(And of course no sugar on the top. It will just get sticky and too sweet).

And then, absolutely no ice ream on the pie.
    That should be completely forbidden.😃

The only things you put on top of apple crumble pie are custard and wipped cream.
    No less no more.

What I have done this year is to make a number of pies in disposable aluminium forms which I later put in the freezer to have deserts during the winter.
I did the same with peach pies as well as false cheese cakes based on squash.
    I find that very practical.

  4. I have learned to use Bramley apples as the base with no sugar and just a little in the crumble mix. Still tastes delicious.

  5. Oh that's my favourite dessert John. I have everything but the lemon 🍋 but I'll be making it as soon as I can. Thank you for your wonderful videos 😊

  6. If ever I needed an excuse to go out and pick the seven little apples I have on my young trees then this is it.

  7. Awesome. I've been following you for some time and am so impressed with your techniques on cooking.

  8. Love love your Apple Crumble, John. I will make it and enjoy your recipe. Thank you so much for sharing them. Good luck and God bless you.❤❤😋

  9. Strongly recommend adding the oats. Gives both more flavor and more texture. But, like all things, the cook decides!

  10. Looks very similar to baked apples where you rip out the centre of an apple and fill it with ingredients. Some sultanas and cloves could also be used.

  11. Holy crumble! This recipe is more or less a carbon copy of my grandma’s recipe that I’ve been using for the last 25 years! She lived in Sweden and crumble was not a typical thing we did there (as opposed to butter-drenched pie shells). Makes me curious to know where she picked it up. Anyway, thank you for another beauty, John! Looking forward to the next one! ✌️

  12. Thank you John. Will def be doing this one. Just ordered book 5. Too. Keep up the great work and thank you for your excellent recipes God bless you and the family sir. 👍👍

  13. OMG John my favorite Apple crumble… I like the little dishes think I might have to have a go… thak you.

  14. That looks absolutely fabulous, and I am pleased to say that my recipe is very close to yours!

Here in NZ we can occasionally get Peasgood Nonsuch apples. They are large, almost enormous, quite sweet and actually I don't need sugar when using them in the base.
    Thank you.

  15. Crumbles should always come with a yes please, that's cream, ice cream and custard, it's sublime. Thanks John.x

  16. I made this as one crumble in a big dish rather than 6 portions. It doesn't last long enough in my household to justify splitting it up. And I must add that it was possibly the best apple crumble I've ever tasted. Absolutely delicious.

  17. i made some chicken pies using your puff pastry recipe today and they come out amazing . i was hopeing i was the only one that liked them but the whole family loved them . i will be doing these next they look great
    👍

  18. Aww, but these look bloody cracking! Cheers for another smasher, bonny lad. You keep uploading? I'll keep watching 😀
