Went to Evangeline Cafe last night. I always forget about how good that damn gumbo is. Live music from 7-9 throughout the week, and an old time feel to it. Great service. Here are some descriptions below, entire meal was $45 before tip. Well worth it in my opinion for two people, had enough leftover for lunch today.
Also, I originally discovered this place because they had great lunch specials – any poboy and a cup of gumbo for $12.99 (and I was missing some home cooking).
Food:
Cup of Chicken and Andouille Gumbo ($5.60) – great flavor, plenty of chicken and sausage.
Grilled Shrimp Poboy (large $15.99) – french bread is perfect, packed with shrimp.
Muffuletta ($11.99) – one of my favorite sandwiches in Austin. Olive spread on both sides and some Jalepeno mayo on side to dunk in. Comes with a side.
Miranda's Pecan Praline Pistolette ($4.99) – holy shit. Usually I get the bread pudding, but I saw this and just had to try. Essentially a pecan pie filling stuffed beignet with praline sauce on top.
