I was in the Brighton Beach/Gravesend vicinity for an appointment and walked by this place on Avenue U. I figured why not? I’m starving and it looks reputable from the outside.

Well, what a meal! The borscht was hearty, loaded with veggies (no meat in this version) and came with a spoonful of silky sour cream and a small basket of delicious, warm bread. And then I ordered the variniki, boiled. I salt-n-peppered them up and utilized the side dish of the same sour cream with each bite.

I know that far Eastern European food can get a bad rap, but in this type of weather this food really hit the spot and the establishment is very well-kept with excellent service. If you’re ever in the area or looking for a food adventure then head down via the Q!
