This Pasta e Ceci is one of the most comforting and traditional Italian dishes — halfway between a soup and a pasta, creamy from the chickpeas and packed with rustic flavour. Just a few humble ingredients, but the taste brings you straight to a Nonna’s kitchen in the countryside.
Ingredients:
• 300g dried chickpeas (or 2 cans cooked)
• 5 cherry tomatoes (or 1 tbsp passata)
• 2L water (approx.)
• 200g angel hair pasta
• ½ onion, ½ carrot, ½ celery
• Parmigiano, olive oil, black pepper, salt
How to make it:
If using dried chickpeas, soak overnight in plenty of water.
In a large pan, finely chop onion, carrot, and celery, and sauté in olive oil for 3–4 minutes.
Add halved cherry tomatoes (or passata) and chickpeas. Stir and cook for a few minutes.
Season with salt and pepper, pour in water, and simmer for 20–30 minutes.
Add pasta directly into the soup and cook until tender.
Serve hot, finishing with Parmigiano, black pepper, and a drizzle of olive oil.

Do you want to know how to make chickpeas pasta or chickpea soup? Let’s grab a large pan. Go inside with extra virgin olive oil and do your soprito. So, carrots, onion, and celery if you like and start sizzling everything. Don’t forget to soak overnight your chickpeas, but you can use the canned one. Don’t worry, the result is almost the same. They are delicious. Once the sofrito is ready, go inside with five cherry tomatoes. Slice it in half. or if you prefer a spoon of pata. Remove the water from your chickpeas and put them inside. Now on the stove, let it cook for about 3 to 4 minutes while you mix in. Adjust with salt, black pepper, and cover with water. Once we’re done, bring it back to the stove, medium to high heat, cover with a lid, and let it cook for 15 to 20 minutes. Make sure to keep an eye on the water. And once has been cooking for a little while, you have two option here. You can have it as it is, which is delicious, and I recommend to have with a tiny bit of croutons or hard bread inside, or in my case, I’m going to put angel hair pasta straight in. Now, mix it and let the pasta cook in the soup. And once the pasta is ready, put it in a plate. Finish it up with some black pepper if you like, Parmesan cheese or extra virgin olive oil and enjoy a delicious chickpeas pasta.
