Whenever I open up a new bag of coffee I always do a split shot. One cup is only espresso and the other cup I add oat milk. I like to see how each cup tastes. Anyone else do this?

I just take a sip of the espresso before I add the oat milk. Usually know right away whether I f’d up the shot or not. Lol

  2. Where’d you get your cups from those are awesome!

Like another poster said, I just taste the espresso, then add milk.

And I’ll know how to fix the next shot

No because then my flat white is missing a shot.

I dial in new beans making just espresso. Once it’s where I want it, then I’m back to milk drinks.

Those cups are indeed awesome. Looking forward to hearing where you got them

No I do not do this I just taste the espresso before I add the milk

No. But I will now. More importantly, I’d like to know where to buy those cups!

Espresso is very strong, without dilution, it’s hard to ascertain the flavours. That’s why cupping exists. Flat white is basically cupping but pleasant.

Hold up. Have you tasted both splits? In my experience those two pours from the same puck do not taste or feel the same. Same as everyone else, I sample the shot I pulled and determine if it needs to be saved by some milk lol

Yep I do this all the time. Love to taste the coffee pure and love a cappuccino

I feel like you enjoy both straight espresso and milk (alternative) based drinks and Reddit can’t fathom the idea of someone who appreciates both.

This is a great idea. Going to do it myself next bag.

What do you mean by „when I open a new bag“ – of coffee you already know? Because if it is a new coffee I usually waste at least 250g until it taste nice..

I haven’t but that’s a great idea! Love your cups

If a new bean, my first pull is straight espresso. Just to get an idea of the roast etc.

Recently visited several coffee shops with “one and one” on the menu – turns out it’s exactly what you’re describing!

I do one espresso and one plain milk

I don’t do that at home (though I do taste the espresso before adding milk) but order a “Duet” at my favourite coffee shop – it’s an espresso shot, a cortado beside, plus a glass of water. It’s perfect.

  18. I just use what i can from the last bag and supplement with the new bag to hit the right amount of fill in my portafilter. It helps reduce the amount of guesswork in dialing in a new bag and usually it tastes just fine.

Yup! I do the same, I always make a split shot when I want to drink a cappucinno myself. I think I drink espresso 70% of the time, so I figured. If those taste good, the cappuccino’s will taste good :).

It made me very uneasy when my parents came to visit, bringing new expensive coffee and wanting a cappuccino right away. No split shot.. aargh! 😀
Usually I make some espresso’s first.

I just always taste a sip of the shot. If I’ve messed up the shot, extra milk is added 😂

At the cafe I worked at, I would always taste the espresso by itself and then with some milk. Finding the right spot for both types of drinkers. You’ll quickly find what works best for everyone.

    Love doing this.

I’ve always known it as a “one & one”

  23. I think my espresso machine actually keeps track so I could check but I feel like I’ve steamed milk very few times. Almost always just espresso.
