A generous lunch and the music of Tony Villella set the tone for a joyful celebration marking the 35th anniversary of the Gladstone Park Italian Pensioners Club, held on October 14 at the club’s headquarters inside the Gladstone Park Senior Citizen Centre.
President Rino Dell’Anno opened the festivities by welcoming everyone and leading a toast to the club’s continued success. This was followed by Maestro Tony Villella, who performed the Australian and Italian national anthems.
The club was founded in 1990 by then-federation president Pasquale Carfì, with the blessing of Reverend Vincenzo D’Amico, who consecrated the club’s flag. The first president, Frank Capuana, served in the role until 2002.
The committee members took care of serving a sumptuous four-course lunch, featuring a traditional Italian antipasto, lasagna, roast veal and beef with sides, followed by cake and coffee.
After the meal came the ceremonial cutting of the anniversary cake, a moment that symbolised both nostalgia and pride for the club’s long history of community and friendship.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, members also celebrated the 90th birthday of long-time member Antonio Tomasello, who was warmly applauded by everyone.
The afternoon concluded with a lively raffle draw, closing a day filled with music, laughter and camaraderie — a perfect reflection of the enduring spirit of the Gladstone Park Italian Pensioners Club.
