Starting this Saturday, almost 170,000 Mainers will lose their SNAP benefits due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.

Sam’s Italian Foods announced it’ll provide free pizzas for children who’ve lost their SNAP benefits.

The restaurant posted on Facebook on Monday that starting November 1, they will provide two 10-inch cheese pizzas per family per week for children 12 and under until the shutdown ends.

They just need proof of ID with your SNAP or EBT card, and to have the child with you.

Parents who want to eat with their child can get a 10% discount on their meal.

“The entire Sam’s Team is passionate about helping those within our community with what we can. It is very difficult times for us all, but we hope this will help some families cope,” Sam’s Italian Foods said.

Sam’s Italian Foods has locations in Auburn, Augusta, Brunswick, Dixfield, Freeport, Lewiston, and Lisbon Falls.
