Someone gave me this last year for a secret Santa thing. I've used like 1/6th of the bottle since. It challenges my tolerance which is normally a good thing, I've gone through a few other bottle of hotter stuff in that same time frame, but this stuff just tastes like gasoline to me and i haven't used any of it in months. Am I crazy or is there something weird about this one?

Taste is disgusting. Tossing it is the right call.

  2. It’s the extract you’re tasting. Doesn’t taste good at all. Try sauces that get their heat from the actual peppers.

Same with Da Bomb. 🗑️ extract sauces

  4. KEEP IT! You can use it for adding heat to weak sauces!

You’re not alone. It’s one of the only sauces I’ve thrown away. Just terrible flavor

I’ve heard on other posts that its best used in chili’s, stews, carnitas, etc. It’s not something I’d dab my burrito with, but I feel like it has its place to add to other dishes.

That being said, I have a bottle myself and have hardly touch it lol. So take my comment with a grain of salt 😅

As others have said it is likely the extract you are tasting. I can manage a fair bit of heat but extract is a no go for me. The Dave’s Gourmet Scorpion Pepper Hot Sauce is amazing and is their super hot sauce with no extract.

My sister and her friends got into hot sauce for about 5 minutes one time. She tried green Yucateco and thought she had conquered the hot sauce world. She came over asking for the hottest I had. Dave’s Ghost was it at the time. I warned her several times and tried to get her to start slower. She had a soup spoon and almost filled it. I told her to just take a dab and dump the rest. She shrugged her shoulders and downed it all. She had a long night. She said the next morning wasn’t great either. I never cared for it so I left the rest of the bottle at her house the next time I was there.

I used it to keep squirrels from chewing on wooden steps. They hated it too.

I’m not a fan. I’ve added it to chili or stews before when raw heat was needed. Unfortunately, it has a heap of bitterness to it, too.

  11. Aww, I really like that one. Both that and the Scorpion sauce. I use the ghost pepper when I want a bit of smokiness, the Scorpion when I want a bit of sweetness

    Truth post 👍

    I like the truth!

It tastes metallic. No ghost pepper flavor at all.

One of the first sauces I bought when I got into superhots. At the time it was too damn hot for me. Everytime I would eat it, it would burn me to no end and give me a stomach ache.

Honestly, since then… I’ve developed an extreme tolerance. I don’t grow peppers anymore but I still eat superhot pepper powder every day.

Dave’s changed. I had an old bottle from a few years ago someone gifted me. It’s way better than the new stuff.

I too tossed mine, it was taking up space where a better sauce could live

Dave’s insanity was the 1st hot sauce I’d had that was spicier than like Texas Pete or Tabasco. I picked it up at Kroger, and I wasn’t expecting much from a chain grocery store. It blew my lid off and ruined my dinner. None of their sauces have been too appetizing to me, but they definitely bring the heat.

Got a bottle of this back in 2014. My first superhot. It wrecked me.

I absolutely love this sauce. It’s my go to for pizza or Ramen.

I like Dave’s gourmet but the ghost was too much for me. I stop at insanity. I had a hit so bad i vomited for hours and it was just a terrible experience.

Dude. This is the shit. Literally. Reap the flavour, pay the price.

Too heavy on the extract. Doesn’t taste natural. I have had success adding it and mixing with Melinda’s though in like a 1:5 ratio… By itself it just doesn’t taste good. Needs to be cooked into a pot of chili.

I like Dave’s Scotch Bonnet, but that’s about it.

I have had this one before, it is very good mixed into ramens and chili and other soups. Not a very good stand alone flavor to me.

  25. I have daves insanity and it isn’t tasty at all
