Thanks to you guys I got one on clearance. It's the Classic II. The store also had a connected on clearance also ($900). I got the basic one after a prior bad experience with another brands connected grill.

I know nothing about these grills or egg shape grills. I've been in grill market for a long time waiting on a clearance deal so I jumped on this immediately. No questions asked. Store still has to assemble and deliver to me so I have a week to prepare.

So now…I have a lot of questions. What do I need to know. Where do I look to learn. Talking extreme basics to advanced. What fuel. How to light. What to do. How to use. Recipes. Cleaning. Etc etc etc.

Thanks for the tips on the sale and any advice.

The first thing I would do is learn vent settings and how to hold a temperature for an extended time. I’ve been cooking with my classic 1 for over a decade now and absolutely love it. It does a great job at so many different things. I’ve smoked meats and cheese, braised, baked pizza, pies, bread and quiche, and grilled everything I could. Enjoy using it.

    Here’s a recent spatchcocked turkey

What you have just bought is not a grill though it can be used for that purpose. What you have just bought is not a smoker though it can be used to cook food with smoke. What you have just purchased is a charcoal-fueled ceramic oven. If you keep this in mind, many things will make more sense.

  3. How much did they charge you to assemble and ship it to you?

    so jealous of these posts!

I got mine used for $500.

Brand new ones for $600 is a steal

I own a Big Green Egg but I think this recommendation will work as well for you: I think it’s common to try to start using the bottom vent and the lid in the top at the same time, which ends up giving you endless possible configurations!

I recommend you start by mastering only one and leaving the other fully open. That has helped me learn a lot more than many youtube videos. Also, I think you could benefit from checking the Naked Whiz website, which has lots of knowledge.

If I could recommend anything, it’s to just become very familiar with the grill and develop an understanding of how it works in order to use it properly. Basics you might overlook due to excitement is to do a clean burn when you get it. Dont use cheap briquettes, this is lump charcoal only.
