Recently (in the last year) moved to a new location on the outskirts of the centre, Joro is my tip to be awarded a Michelin star next year. British with Japanese influences in the menu. Stand out dishes were the bluefin tuna, the scallop and the celeriac

  1. Venison and beetroot tart
Nicely fruit taste, good rich venison

  2. Tuna croustard, smoked and confit in tuna fat
Lovely soft tuna, nice heat from the wasabi

  3. Welsh cheddar custard choux with roasted onions
Rich deep cheddar flavour, backed by sweet jammy onions

  4. Pineapple with Kaffir lime zest and ancho chille
Fairly plain but cleaned the pallette following three fairly heavy hitting snacks

  5. Tuna Belly, dry aged, citrus, wasabi, tuna soy sauce
Great flavour in the tuna, the balance in the citrus and soy was spot on. Lingering hint of saltiness, tart, fresh. A top dish

  6. Chalk stream trout, Amalfi lemon, buerre blanc, trout roe, kosho
Perfectly cooked trout, soft and moist. Nice citrus hit. Hint of spice that lingered for a while from the kosho, made with Amalfi lemon

  7. Chawanmushi, ceps, langoustine sauce
Lightly flavoured and set custard, hints of seaweed. nice earthiness from the cep. Sauce added depth and sweetness

  8. BBQ scallop, lemon grass and Kaffir lime sauce
Juicy sweet scallop, nice char, rich sweet and spicy sauce with added pops of zing from the lime

  9. BBQ celeriac, celeriac veloute, crispy celeriac and ancho chillies mole
Earthy sweetness from the celeriac, great flavour in the veloute. Mixed well with the spicy and smoky mole

  10. Lamb loin, pepper relish, aubergine caponata salad, garlic butter milk bread, cultured butter
Lovely lamb, pepper relish added a nice spice. Salad was fully of flavour, capers and smokey aubergine. Bread was good and looked to be loaded with garlic but wasn't, so didn't overpower the main dish

  11. Sourdough French toast, Cotes hill blue, spruce honey and rhubarb
A mellow blue cheese, complimented well with the french toast. Added tartness from the rhubarb and sweetness from the honey

  12. Apple parfait, marshmallow
Sweet marshmallow, great apple taste. Nice contrast between the textures and temperatures. Worked really well

  13. Fermented jasmine rice mousse, brown butter parfait, white chocolate disk, pear and soy caramel
A dessert that had everything, sweet, tart, savoury, salt. Lovely

  14. Egg custard tart, caramelised white chocolate fudge, chocolate and miso cookie, granny smith jelly
Rich flavourful custard tart, sweet fudge, tasty soft cookie and tart jelly

£125 for the tasting menu, options for lunch available and they have rooms too

I'd recommend and plan to go back some time next year

I’m not sure it’s quite good enough for a star yet (at least, it’s imo narrowly but noticably weaker than the london one-stars in a similar style), but it’s excellent and very much among the best in the region.

Been meaning to go here but I’m rarely in the Sheffield area and the amount of supplements littered across the menu puts me off

First Doncaster, now Sheffield, glad to see some other bits of the UK than just London in this sub.
