Looks like escolar (sometimes called ‘white tuna’)

Escolar the shit fish! Where is this? That tamago looks terrible. I’m sorry but is the true.

Escolar. Delicious if you like rich, buttery fish, but can cause stomach upset, so indulge with caution.

Fun fact: escolar has been outlawed in Japan for about half a century

    Bro, it’s SO good, right?

Like others have said, it’s escolar and eating more than a little is likely to mess you up. Because of its metabolism its flesh has a much higher oil content than most.

In Japan and a few other countries it’s banned entirely. In others it’s allowed but with warning. But in the good ol’ USA they’ve basically said, “Have at it, man! Freedooooom!!”

It’s usually labeled white tuna or butterfish instead of escolar.

All that said, it seems like some folks are more sensitive or tolerant than others.

While most here will tell you to avoid it, I have seen a few comment in the past saying that they love it and eat as much as they want and never have issues.

You get to decide how far you wanna test it.

That whole platter looks sus; something about the colour is off.
Could the fish be processed in some way?
Then again, it is the US and fried chicken is being served along with the sushi.

    Escolar.

Taste and texture are great, but four slices of sashimi is probably going to give you some form of diarrhea.

Escolar is delicious. If you’re like some of the people here that scarf down entire sushi boats to themselves and still hunger for more, then yes, be wary.

I can eat escolar with no impact on my stomach. Is that an abnormal thing?
