I am just starting to decorate cookies. I took an online class and made this set last night. When I picked up the cookies to move them to the side, a lot of them got smudged by my fingers. Is there a way (besides a spatula) to pick them up and move them? Do people use parchment squares? Any ideas would be appreciated.

You just have to grab them only by the sides, one side with your thumb and the other with your middle or ring finger. There’s no hack around it – they take 8-24 hours to fully dry!
I use parchment squares. I decorate on a cookie turntable and then more the cookie to a separate table with a fan to dry. This is what works for me.
The way to move them is carefully! Lol I’ve (and I think we all have) bumped and dropped so many cookies over the years. What I do is ice my cookies on a cooling rack then as I go place all of them as I go on a cookie sheet, then just have to set the whole cookie sheet aside for 24 hours. I bought a Betty Crocker tiered rack w cookie sheets that I set aside where I let them dry.
I just had to say that these are so cute!
Carefully. I also use a turntable, use the backend of scribe to push to side, pick up towards lower side, onto cookie sheet. Again use scribe to push cookie around on sheet. Place sheet on 3 tier rack in front of fan. And as others said I loose some
I recognize that class! I took it too, isn’t Grace wonderful?? Let them dry completely, and just be careful. We have ALL goofed by putting a finger on / in the icing, and I STILL do it! Great job on your pumpkins!
I have a Beveled Square Edge Turner. It’s thin but solid metal and easy to get under wet cookies. It’s just for my cookies. The family knows not to be using it for preparing meals etc.
I use my scribe to gently push the cookie to off the side of my turntable onto my other hand. Then gently slide it onto the cookie rack. Goal is to only touch spots without icing untill after it’s set.
Of course, that only applies to ones that get fully covered in one go, ones with sections have a little more space to play with when moving them.
I use a very thin stencil icing scraper. Just slide it underneath the cookie and slide it on to whatever tray you are using, but typically I usually will leave my cookies on a rack or cookie sheet to dry overnight. You truly don’t want to risk finger poke accidents, especially if they are for a customer. They look beautiful and way better than my time first starting out! Happy decorating ☺️
