I’ve had El Yucateco at some point in some restaurant somewhere… but it’s been years. It is definitely not offered at our local grocery store. So it’s out of sight out of mind…
For context (see pic 2) I like varying degrees of hot sauce – mostly on the hotter side. But in many pepper and hot sauce subs here, these El Yuc’s have been revered as the go-to staple.
This 6 pack just came in today- where do I start?!

Personal favorites for me are the XXX and black label. Black label seems like you either hate it or love it. I love it.
The hot sauce chili hab just blew my mind in terms of overall quality and spice. Hotter than I thought and super tasty. The red sauce one with the red wrapper.
I really love the Caribbean and the XXX hot, but even the XXXhot is a very mild hot sauce compared to some that you own. The chile jalapeno I really like on fries.
It doesn’t matter where you start, so long as you finish all of them.
Whatever order you go in. Save the red for last.
Have not had a chance to try the carribean or jalapeno but I would say in terms of heat…
This is the order – The black one, the red one, the green one, then the xxxtra hot in terms of spice. That’s my opinion though
Black is either love or hate. I think it tastes like charcoal but plenty of people love it. Many aren’t insanely spicy but flavor is great.
I really think that the green has the best actual flavor. It’s delicious on anything from burritos to chicken soup. Wouldn’t think it would be great on pizza but it’s amazing. Shrimp and grits again amazing. The green is maybe my favorite hot sauce of all time.
Thanks for the responses! Ok I’ve gone through them all- first did an unwrap and taste test right from the bottle – and they all have something very good to offer! Delicious even… I then let them he palette cool down and had them all again this time with food, in particular a hearty pasta fagioli.
So from a heat profile they are all fairly close as they are all chili habs, except for the green chili jalapeño (at the end) is mild in both flavor and heat, I can see that going well on salads etc, but I probably would repurchase. The other 5 however all have something to offer in both heat and flavor profiles- I really like the versatility of these…
The red chili hab is a bit milder in heat and feels like a Tabasco-like flavor, but not texture- it’s a little more viscous and actually has some hints that remind me of Moe’s hard rock sauce(which I love) It’s actually really good!
The green chili hab is like the chili jalapeño but with definite more heat and a little more flavor, it’s got a sweet tangy up front taste, immediately followed by a peppery finish, it’s really good. I like this a lot.
The black label is super unique- I wouldn’t say it’s far and beyond the hottest- it is in line with the others with a slight edge maybe. But the Smokey chipotle flavor brings you right to the log cabin w fireplace feel.. I can see where some of you mention love it or hate it- it’s polarizing for sure, I happen to love it, because it’s different. Would be my go to every time- but it’s a fun change up from your typical pepper sauce.
The Carribean, is exactly what I expected, mangos, oranges, (some kind of fruit?) and carrots up front, with a nice ride into pepper-ville with the habs. Definitely a breakfast burrito go-to. I currently use yellow-bird’s plumb reaper sauce for my morning egg burritos but this will pair nicely!
Like many have already said in other forums and here, the XXX is the leader go-to for me, it has the heat, a little more complex flavor profile. Feels like a little of all of them combined- I here’s the slightest hint of smoke(but maybe it’s the pepper forward) and a good texture. I can see why it’s a fan favorite.
I will say – as others have already- the El Yucateco line of sauces is definitely more pepper forward (less vinegar, more black pepper), throughout, but it’s a great pack to have in your lineup to balance things out. I’m very happy with this lineup- thanks for the comments and suggestions!!
The BEST Hot Sauce Brand in the game 🔥
Unpopular opinion probably but I find El Yucateco too synthetic tasting 😬
Los Calientes used to be great for low spice taco sauce, I bought some from the grocery store last year and it’s watery and terrible.
That’s an expensive door right there
I buy the Caribbean 6-at-a-time
The red and green are fairly mild but have a pretty standard flavor. The XXXTra Hot is a good heat level, with good flavor and I use it almost daily. The black bottle is smoked habanero and a bit of an acquired taste IMO… It definitely has a charred, smoky taste. Not my favorite.
