Fishwife is the Olive Garden of the Sardine world.

It’s just…average. And the fact they don’t even source it themselves and relying on others is perplexing to me. I and many others have commented on how they charge 8 dollars for a tin of mackerel, it’s just pricey when they are better brands that feel and are more authentic like Nuri, but Wild Planet is a good backup.

The smoked trout is the only one I’ve had and it was incredibly delicious.

I guess I’m lucky as Fishwife isn’t much of thing in the UK so I never been lured in by pretty overpriced tins.

I’ll just stick to my £2 or less tins that I eat because I’m a poor cheap bugger and not because it’s trendy.

I went to Wegmans tonight looking for King Oscar boneless & skinless sardines (they didn’t have it and neither did Giant hmmph) and I saw Fishwife, then the price, and noped right out of there. Well, right after I grabbed King Oscar sardines in olive oil and lemon.

Pretty sure it’s just the cost return in investment
It’s usually a lot more expensive than other options where I tend to be

Though I don’t hate any of them. Mainly cause I’m only an occasional flyer

Fishwife is expensive, but it’s not dismissible by any measure. Smoked mackerel tin is pretty damn good.

Hah yes! Eventually you realize how much extra you’re paying for aesthetics but it is a good gateway brand. They remind me of the touristy sardine shop in Portugal

It’s ok. But ok shouldn’t mean twice the price of other premium brands.

I’m super new to tinned fish and I’m glad I browsed through a bunch of posts before buying my first haul 🐟 I bought a few tins of fishwife because I want to see what the fuss is about. I enjoyed what I’ve had so far, but I’ve really liked the stuff I got from trader joe’s!

Would love to hear even more recommendations as I continue my tinned fish journey 🫡🐟

Don’t hate Fishwife, just wish it was cheaper

Fish wife is better than chicken of the sea.

Fishwife Smoked Trout is pretty damn good.

We should invent a new fish to tin. A brand new one. We can do it.

The anchovies and sichuan chili salmon are worth the prices I saw them for most recently—$5-$7 a tin. As for the Sardines i prefer Nuri still.

  16. Not me. I was very happy to see the Smoked Salmon with Zhong Sauce on a shelf tonight at the fantastic Tuckahoe Seafood, in Richmond, Virginia—bought some. And if I could lay hands on the Rainbow Trout in Chimichurri, I’d be even happier.

  17. elvisizer2

their mackerel is 100% worth what it costs at target . . .and it’s even cheaper at costco if you use them.

i dunno why people get so upset lol

  18. Time-Wasted2

I’ll say it. Fishwife is good.. It’s overpriced but it’s good and has good quality fish.

  19. Crusher10833

Listen if another brand had smoked trout in red chimichurri I’ll buy it. Until I find that I’ll keep on buying Fishwife. That stuff is delicious.

I really like all of the fishwife I’ve tried, except their sardines. Nuri, matiz, or even flower are so much better for much less. That being said, the only tin of theirs I buy semi regularly is the Sichuan smoked salmon. Everything else is hard to justify, but I need that salmon in my life.

  21. South_Forsaken

We all know they taste good but they beat the purpose of getting tinned fish which tends to be cheap within the food meta

Fishwife is good as a gift, I think a lot of people use it that way. I’ve never bought some for myself, but have given and had received fishwife as gifts around the holidays. It’s the kind of tin you buy for a party, to share, or to gift. If I were to buy it for myself and eat it, it would feel sort of like a waste to me. I feel like it’s meant to be shared. Their tins are above average in terms of taste and quality, but the price tag people take issue with.

If fishwife were to drop their prices 2-3 bucks a tin I think it would fly off the shelf.

  23. TheDiplomancer

I really like their rainbow trout. It’s a treat. But yeah. I wish it was cheaper

  24. TheVore-ax

I like fishwife products a lot! But being able to buy 2-3 of a more reasonably priced (and still delicious) tin offsets the pros for me.

I think it’s a perfect name for the brand. Being Fishnewlyweds feels a lot different than being Fishmarriedforfifteenyears.
